if it was a colt i would say "if i doesnt out of the box send it back to colt cuz its defective" but a RIA... reliability is very dependent on the individual gun. fit and finish qa isnt the best.

as for +p and such i find it is not much gain ballistically to offset the increased muzzle flash and recoil. i stick with standard pressure levels for SD ammo. but thats just my opinion. mileage may vary.

    Is the gun new?

I don't recommend the use of Hollow Points until the gun has proven itself with 400-500 rounds of 230 gr ball. Then start your experiment with the HP's.

As far as +P ammo, I really don't see the need to change JMB's design parameters of big and slow with hot rounds. I suggest before you try the +P ammo you call RIA and ask them. Their answer will speak volumes about your gun and them as a manufacturer.

I have seen some of the Philippines 1911's develop distinct wear marks (and gouges) on the slide stop where the barrel lugs come in contact. And every one had less than 1000 rounds.

I would double check all parts when cleaning for rapid wear. Should the slide stop fail, you could get an exciting surprise.

I can't speak on RIA, but Colts and SAs can handle +p+ with ease. But that's Colt and SA, quality is job one. My old man taught you do a bad job over and over until you get it right, you do a good job once. Colt and SA do good jobs.

    OP,
I've fired 200 +P out of my AO with no problem but I don't make a habit of it. You might find that the feed ramp needs a polishing to feed HPs reliably. Easy enough DIY job.

    About ammo

I have a RIA 1911A1, and have been feeding it just about everything with no problems. I have never run +P's. My favorite for personal and home defense is Win Ranger 230's. Next would be Rem Golden Sabers. I mostly shoot Win White-Box 230's. After about a year or so it seems that any FMJ is what the gun likes. Lately, I have noticed a horizontal gouge starting on the pre-feed ramp.(might not be the correct nomenclature) I'm referring to that little part of the frame just below the barrel. Using JHP's, if I don't rack it completely back, I can produce a hang. Using FMJ's is smooth as silk.
