Perhaps you guys can help me.

I'll be moving off base soon maybe in the next month or so. Because I'm a Nuke I'll be getting BAH for the 6 months I'll be there.

I'm a simple man so I don't want to just get an apartment when there is a discount or free RV park for military right here. I'm more than likely just going to buy a semi upscale camper or a decent one.

Can anyone point me to a particular brand to stray from or go to?

Something not to expensive maybe at the most 5000 grand for a simple camper. I don't want fold out has to be metal with glass or whatever windows...sink stove, etc etc. I looked on craigs list and found some cheap 1980s ones but meh not sure.

You are wanting a tow camper right and not something like an over head?

Look for an RV dealer in your area. More then likely you're going to spend more than $5k.

Jayco are decent. There is a little 5th wheel model locally that is $7500. Your going to need to buy used. Look at craigs list ebay and local rv dealers.

Here is a SC dealer that has a camp trailer (Soft sided pop up) for just under $6k.
Trail Center - South Carolina's Jayco RV Dealer - North Charleston, SC

Hows about a tear drop trailer? Teardrop Trailer Rv Camper - eBay (item 160556051530 end time Mar-14-11 09:29:45 PDT)

Get you a nice fire pit and a nice propane grill and a fold up gazbeoo and you would be set. Your not gonna entertain to amny lady friends in it but hey your training not partying. Teardrop Trailer Rv Camper - eBay (item 160556051530 end time Mar-14-11 09:29:45 PDT)

Found some online for roughtly 2500-8000 bucks.

I'm probably going to spend maybe 4000-5000...hell my bonus I get part of is at least 7800 so I mean it's not that big of a deal....also BAH for me is like 800 or something bucks a month...the thing pays for itself practically so spending 5000 aint that big of a deal. Now 8000 maybe a bit to much but hey whatever.

That will work. You'll need a heavy half ton GMC, or 3/4 ton Ford, Chevy Dodge or GMC to tow it.

Heh I only have my 4 cyl Mazda/Ranger. But I planned on that. Was going to get a shipmate to help me tow it when the time comes...but you've got me interested in the Scamp though...that thing is small. Looks perfect for just me. Plenty of storage too for my stuff I'm sure.

They are in high demand, especially the 13 and 16 ft model with the shower option. Run anywhere from $3500 for the 13ft. to $12,000 for the 19ft. fifth wheel. Here is a link to a couple who tow their fifth wheel Scamp with a Toyota Tacoma 4 cyl. Razzle Dazzle — Scamp Page

I'm not going to buy anything yet. I'm not 100 percent sure I'm staying in SC yet. I could go to NY so I'm waiting til I get the official news.

I need at least a stove, AC, and a Sink. They have a bathhouse here so I'm not to worried about that. And if it's just me living it in then it should be fine. I need some room though for the safe though so I can store my CZ75 I'll be getting for home defense though. Camper is to small for a shotgun.

Hurm I see a fleetwood here locally for 3850 in Goose Creek being sold by an elderly couple but I hear horror stories about fleetwood.

    Camper trade or sell

Found another not sure about this one. If it's that cheap and it works then I might get it....but I wonder if it will use my regular laptop plugs and what not...I don't want to blow it up.

Well looks like I'm going to have to go with buying one with a motor in it...just a small one...the place I want to go to doesn't have permenant places so I'm going to have to have the ability to move it and my truck.

I did the RV thing for several years. I used to work in the Casinos in Laughlin Nevada. You are going to want your own bathroom. Most RV parks that are reasonably priced have people staying in them that you don't want to share a bathroom with. I walked into a shower one time to find a used condom laying on the floor.

Don't get me wrong RVing is a great way to go. But you really want your own bathroom. If you shop around you can find some great deals. I just bought a 26' travel trailer for $1200. I had to do some work on it. But the price just couln't be beat. On your budget you would be better off buying a beat up old truck for $500-$1000, than to buy an actual RV that you drive. If you spend $5,000 on an RV it will not be a dependable one. Then you could end up with a broken down RV. It is much easier to relpace a beat up old truck. You can buy a nice travel trailer for $2500-$3500. You just have to shop around.

Actually I think I found a good deal

1999 Brave Series Winebego 30 feet long one. 40 k miles on it and owned by a 25 year old Army Vet who seemed legit....only had 2 owners and it a private sale. Has all the paper work and everything.

I was wanting a cheap one but this one I might actually like to own for myself to maybe use in the future.

He wants 12 thou for it but I talked him down to 11 thousand.

    Whatcha think?

I'll provide a link to some pictures of one.

Winnabego is a great name! If you have it to spend, you probably won't be sorry. 40,000 miles is nothing.

Yeah that's what I was saying.

Aparantly it's had Hydraulics and such installed as well.

Going to be talking with Navy Federal to see if I can get approved for a loan.

And then I'll probably double dip the payments to pay it off. It'll help my credit as well and I can stop using this credit card I don't like to use.

More than ten years old, most lenders won't finance a motorhome. If that is the route you want to go, there are better coaches and better deals.

Well another route I could go is get that old beat up truck and get a 5th wheel or something...but all the red tape to get that is more of a pain...and then I'd have two vehicles.
