Hi all!
I was cited for misdemeanor on illegal gun storage. My gun was not loaded and kept on the second floor and my ammos were all downstairs. If you are reading this, thank you. I lost sleep over this tginking I might go to jail for misdemeanor. I have a clean record. Police cleared me on my accidental discharge while cleaning guns but cited me for not having the gun locked when they asked me where I placed it.

yes. here in california, it is a midemeanor to leave or store your gun unlocked. It must be under lock and key or a california approved locking device like cable locks.

An accidental discharge is hard to talk your way out of, especially if you are in city limits.

Hi, I am Mike! When the police knocked and ask if they may come in, I did let them in and talked calmly. I admitted my mistake and showed them where in the yard it happened. One cop said thank you for being honest and that he will not cite me for it. However I got cited for gun storage violation.

gun must have cable lock, trigger lock or in a locked gun vault.
most folks that I know have a gun safe to secure their guns, not for any safety reason, but to protect their guns from theft. to me that sounds more of a reason to get a safe then any other reason.

from what I have read the penalty for having a unsecure firearm is a third-degree criminal storage of a firearm is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail or fine of up to $1,000, or both.

you definitely need a attorney

do this: find a gun safe which is California approved. look it up on youtube. most of them have 4 bypass techniques that render them useless. a grade school child could look it up. on one video a 3 year old bypasses the lock.

I always keep a watchful eye on my gun because I have kids. before the police went in, I hid my gun, The last thing I wanted is foe them to see it at once and have an excuse to shoot me. I did it fast and didnt get a chance to put a cable lock on it.
