I'm shopping around for parts to build my first AR and ive come across a couple companies who are selling upper kits. One of them is a C.A.R. Kit. It looks a lot like the M4 kit the same company is selling. What is a C.A.R.?

Well the CAR-15 (Colt Automatic Rifle-15) was a short barrel M16 introduced during the Vietnam War. Can't say which kit you're talking about but I suppose the kit is some kind of carbine kit, not a 20" rifle kit.

Its by model "1" sales. Its a 16" on an A2 or A3 upper With the forged front dight and a "CAR" handguard and a heavy barrel

I'd move on. Have you looked at PSA and others?

CAR was the vernacular for an AR-15 carbinie for many years. It has ben replaced by M-4 or Mforgery. Similar concept. True CAR's were really short barreled MG's 10-11" with long flashhiders. M-4's are 14.5" barreled machine guns. 16" carbines are just that, carbines. People tend to attach names to guns to simplify the explanation
