Hello everybody! I have decided to get a 1911 after thoroughly thinking. I have seen MANY many people mention the Rock Island Tactical line of 1911's going for around $450. They seem pretty plain Jane to me. The Remington R1 caught my eye for a little bit until i realized many of it is made out of good ole America. And finally what caught my eye the most is Ruger's SR1911. It is a pretty stainless steel, American made, Lifetime warranty gun. My complaint is the price is around $650 right now (plus shipping fee's if i bought online). Anybody have some recommendations on what it best or what they would buy? Tough decision and originally i wanted to stay under $500 dollars.

Another name i heard was Springfield but i really want to keep under $600 but ya know a gun's gotta last! Thanks guys!

not for sure what you are asking or wanting to know.

first of the Remington R1's are great pistols, getting good reviews. i won a R1 Enhanced and have it about two years, putting many rounds through it. functions perfectly with factory ammo and my handloads. excellent pistol. the standard R1 is pretty basic as well.

the Ruger SR1911 is another good option and gets high marks from those who own them. it's one on my list of 1911's to own as well.

for an inexpensive 1911, the RIA 1911's are hard to beat in quality and price. just like the MetroArms 1911's as well. i own a MetroArms Commander and it performs flawlessly with factory ammo and my handloads. have shot many, many rounds through it as well.

Springfield Armory makes a lot of great pistols and i have owned and currently own one in a 1911, and highly recommend them as well.

for a $500 budget, it really puts you at the bottom of the market with pretty much a basic 1911. wanting something with better sights and other features is going to cost a bit more unless you happen across something used.

honestly you need to set a budget and what you are looking for and what purpose the pistol is going to be used for. this will help define the choices and options much better. your post was kind of vague in what you are wanting.

    Ruger makes great guns.

My favorite of theirs is the Mini 14 Ranch.

The Ruger SR1911 is a Fantastic Gun in Either size,..but they are above your Price Range Shoobee, as is the Springfield. You might get a very Basic no frills Springfield for about $600, but most of the ones I see are $675-$800..
The RIA is your only decent option for Under $500, unless you Piece one Together with parts from Sarco, which can be done, but you will be slightly above $500 when your done. Looking at Zsarco's ad in the 3/31 issue of Shotgun news, they Start at $399, and run to $649 for 45ACP, and 9MM, and they also have the 22TCM/9MM for $599, and $695 are for the 10MM's...the 14 Rd. 1911 Wide body starts at $459. And Quite a few in 9MM in the $400-$500 range, and the 45/22 combo at $595,.. Lots of choices..!!! Good luck, let us know which one you get. I have My Eye on the Tactical in 9MM Myself...

IMHO, the 1911 was originally a "Plain Jane" military gun. So, I personally would prefer that, plus reliability over anything else. Not saying the fancy ones aren't nice, but.....I hear those Turkish 1911's Buds carries are pretty good guns for the money, and they also run around $4 - 450.

Nice Score! I love Just about anything Ruger Makes, but Being that My Income is tight these days, we went in a different direction.

I recently got a RIA and so far I love it. I've only made it to the range once, but might have a chance tomorrow.
