So this weekend I am going to head down state to purchase a m91 mosin nagant, I was wondering what everyones opinion was on these from slide sensitivity to accuracy and the way it handles.

They have a tendency to have "sticky bolt syndrome" which is easy enough to fix. Sometimes they just don't group great without the bayonet. Also not hard to fix. Other than that they are great guns for the money.

    Mosin Nagant 91/30

I got mine 3 years ago at a gun show for $80... fresh from the crate. Since then I've re-finished the stock (nothing fancy. Just a light sanding & several layers of linseed oil rub) and put on an aftermarket recoil pad (recommended). She's a lot of fun at the range and I've even taken her on a pig hunt (but unfortunately it wasn't my day and came home empty handed. Oh well... ). Speaking for myself, it has proven to be a reliable shooter and VERY accurate within 200-250 yards. Farther takes more concentration, skill & luck.
Pros; An affordable piece with plenty of ammo still available and plenty of aftermarket parts for tweeking... Cons; Kicks like a mule!! Action can be hard and throws the spent shells into the next county when cycling (take that into consideration if someone is close ;)) and some light smithing is required for the bolt to mount a proper scope... But overall I love my WW2 Red Army rifle.

Good rifles. I prefer the shorter carbines like the M-44 and M-38, but the full length 91 is a great weapon as well.

I am also looking into an m14, I want to add the M91 to my safe mainly for collectors reasons since it is a truely unique part of history. But as well that russian weaponry has never let me down. But thank you all for you input and it seems like these mosins are quite the expierience to shoot and truely look forward to adding it to my collection.

You can get recoil pads online for @9$.

Increases your LOP and reduces recoil, IMO,

a great deal for taller shooters...
