I am on the hunt for a rifle for my wife (yeah whatever). I currently own a Savage 22-250 (which she finds heavy) and a Sig SHR970 w/o a muzzle break (which kicks too much for her). Any suggestions on what caliber or model I should look into too? She will be using it for general target practice and deer and hog hunting. I saw the Tikka T3 and kind of liked it. Thanks in advance.

The Tikka T3 is a really excellent and lightweight rifle. It's also a real bargain for the money. They will be going up in price soon. I had a .30-06 T3 Hunter, sold it and after kicking myself will probably pick up a laminated/stainless T3 in .30-06 very soon.

Why are you on here asking us? You need to load her up in the car/truck and go to the gun store and let her see, feel, hold, touch, and shoulder the rifles she thinks she might like. If this is her rifle she needs to pick i out not you me or anyone else. Take her to all the local gun shops as she might find a slightly cheaper used rifle that se likes the most.

I would stick to the lighter cartridges myself 243 would be the absolute minium I would think of going.

Yup, you're absolutely right capttango30. I made the mistake of buying a G19 for my wife and she couldn't rack the slide. I took her gun shopping and she found a S&W model 60 that she just loves and shoots well.

SigSavage, take mama gunshopping. ;)

+1 on what the good cpt is recommending. We can tell you all about what we think is best, but none of us are going to be fielding it. Take the good woman shopping and see what she likes. She might surprise you...

Wifes rifle

The sky is the limit as far as rifles go but a nice mild recoil round for hunting and target applications would be a .243 or perhaps a 7MM-08, I would probably lean more to the 7MM -08 if you hunt deer or anything tuffer then that, check out some handy rifles they are well made very accurate and light weight, though I beleave some are outfited with bull berrels, anywho they are cheap enough, I don't know how much she hunts, maybe if alot she would want something a little nicer most youth rifles come in .243 and 7MM-08 and are much smaller and lighter but not much cheaper than the full size model, Good luck to ya there!!!

Thanks gents and I apologize for the delayed response. I have taken the little lady to the gun store and the Tikka T3 was the one rifle that she liked. It was light, shouldered well, had a smooth bolt action and cosmetically appealing. I entered the thread to get more of an idea on which caliber to acquire.
Thanks again for the advice!
