I'm looking for opinions on buis. I have heard the magpul mbus work well but I'm a little hesitant of the plastic construction. Is that wrong of me? Metal just seems less cheap but its magpul they make great stuff in general. I'm going to be using these sights for awhile without an optic. Just for the simple fact that I have always thought it important to be proficient with iron sights incase there was a failure with an optic. I like the troy battle sights and the midwest industries sights. Seeing as mi is down the street from the house I grew up in. I lean towards them. Any input or guidance would be appreciated. Please keep in mind I do not have an unlimited budget but would like a good product. Thanks guys.

The Magpul sights are quite durable, I own a couple of sets of them.

Just don't mount the Magpul front sight on a gas block, it would/will melt when the gas block gets hot.

Anything can break under abuse however I don't look at magpul as just cheapo plastic. They are durable so long as u use the non pts magpul stuff . I own a troy rear folder and I do like my magpuls best. My troys don't pop up no spring assist and they don't lock down either. They only lock in the up position

So that seems like kind of a cop out by troy. You pay that much for a sight and they can't even give you a pop up spring on the sight? Maybe the sight is too heavy for it idk but it seems nicer to have one

Another satisfied MBUS 2 user here. I have three of their rear sights and probably will get one for my Colt/Walther .22lr.

ive got mbus and MI sights along with matech. the MI are very good very solid my only issue with them is the big aperture on their rear sight on the model i have. the small one is nearly too large to be useful.

the mbus are very wide and block a lot of the field of view. they are extremely durable more than you might think from plastic.

matech are the best rear sights ive come across for the ar15 to date outside the A2 style sights.

the BEST back up irons are the national match sights RRA offers. but they dont fold down.

I also like the Matech. And that's a good point that when its skinny aperture is flipped up it blocks very little of your field of view - unlike the MBUS. The built in long distance ranging is nice too. The only bad thing is with a lot of up and down use the dimple that holds down the flip-up wears down and won't keep it locked down. I suppose you could use a punch to raise a new dimple.

Off the top of your head do es MI make a smaller aperture sight? If you don't know I can check more into it. I've looked at the matech before. It looks terrible to be honest but I guess that doesn't matter much when you might need it to save your own life. Is that a folding sight? And do they make a folding front to match it?

i dont think they MI does.

the matech works with any standard milspec front sight its got a bdc lever that actually works with ss109 loadings. it is a folding sight

As others have already opined...Magpul sights are fine and up to the job. Do not buy the $28 pts sights on e-bay...they are built for airsoft rifles and are not the same as the regular Magpul sights.

Awesome! Its always nice to get a tip on a new supplier. I mostly ordered my stuff so far from psa, midway usa, and larue. I ordered my barrel from blackhole weaponry. Thanks for all the help. I means a lot to a guy like me who is just getting into the ar world.
