Please don't think this is a dumb question but I purchased a new Browning X-bolt stainless stalker in a 280 a couple of days ago. This is my first ever rifle with a detachable magazine. I noticed after snapping the magazine in place it has a little play. Is this normal or should it be a tight no movement fit? I figured being that rifle cost so much it would be snug.

as long as its secure and it feeds good it should be ok but how much wiggle we talking 1/16th? 1/4?

When empty the mags have a slight wiggle. Once loaded with ammo, the spring will press the ammo against the bottom of the bolt and there will be no wiggle.

I have an X bolt in .308. Great guns, IMHO.

No problem with my 30.06 X-bolt SS.

Many times the mag design is such that

    it moves a little.

The DE mags actually hang down over 1/8".

It helps the next round pick up on the bolt

better. I am making the assumption your rifle

    cycles properly?

it does cycle properly - and it has about 1/16" wiggle to answer above poster - I love the feel of the stock on the gun and the way it handles
