At least 2 police/security and 4-5 civilians have been shot/injured.

News just said "AR-15 military type assault rifle is believed to have been used".

Just called my Dulles and Jessup MD offices, told them to keep their crews away- they have closed 11th St Bridge, so traffic is going to be hell.

    Notice YET again....

But..but... Washington DC has VERY strict "gun control" regulations??? ...and isn't this a gun free zone for regular civilians ????... Doesn't he know that he's breaking the law ??? .... and the guy is still loose as of 10:00 am Eastern time....
...and I LOVE that the media is (yet again) stating "The military officials said that the gunman may have been armed with an AR15 military style assault rifle" .... Let the public panic begin!!!

The only good thing about this whole thing is that no one has died... so far that is. I pray they will be okay and that they catch the shooter VERY SOON!!

They just reported that the gun is a (3 shot burst) military rifle.
I foresee the term 'workplace violence' being used.

Just stated on Fox, "shooter has a AR-15 civilian model, this type shoots in 3 round bursts, that's why there was reports of three shots fired".

The shooter(s) could possibly be military. That would explain how he/she/they were able to get onto the base and get access to that kind of weapon.

This sh*t is why we who work on military bases, including us folk in uniform, should be allowed to CC if we have a permit to do so, while on the base.

Navy spokesman just said on Fox that "it was strange that D.C. Metro police were in the area because the Navy has its own organic police force." So why are police there at the outbreak of hostilities?

    Yahoo news saying differently:

    http://news.yahoo.com/shots-fired-at-washington-navy-yard--u-s--navy-confirms-130407614.html

Four dead in Navy Yard shooting

WASHINGTON — The Washington Navy Yard was placed on lockdown after multiple shots were fired inside a building on the base, the U.S. Navy said. Four people were killed, according to several news reports. The Navy confirmed multiple fatalities, but would not immediately confirm that figure.

At least 10 people were injured in the shooting, including eight civilians, one Washington, D.C., Metro police officer and one base officer, D.C. Metro Police said.

The Navy said three shots were fired at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building on the base at 8:20 a.m., and police were treating it as an active shooter situation. According to the Washington Post, the officer was shot near the room where a gunman had barricaded himself. According to the paper, police had a shooter "pinned down" between the third and fourth floors.

Rick Mason, administrative specialist program management specialist for the U.S. Navy, told Yahoo News he was on the fourth floor when he saw a shooter had a shotgun, aiming down into the atrium. The gunman, Mason said, was targeting people who walked into the cafeteria.

A "shelter in place" order was issued for Navy Yard personnel, the Navy said in a news release.

Approximately 3,000 people work in the building where the shots were heard, though it's unclear how many people were inside at the time of the shooting.

A heavy SWAT and police presence could be seen around the Navy Yard, and a helicopter was circling overhead.

Employees could be seen huddled outside the base crying and holding each other. At least one of the victims was airlifted from the scene.

A ground stop was ordered at Reagan National Airport, and schools in the area were placed on temporary lockdown.

A White House official said President Barack Obama has been briefed several times about the unfolding situation at the Navy Yard by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco and Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromanaco.
