I am customizing an old mauser 93, and am jeweling the bolt myself. I was wondering if, since I'm affraid to try and take it off, I could jewel the extractor ring and then cold blue it? Would I still see any of the jewel pattern?

Jeweling is generally left "in the white" with no finish applied.

Yes, and I plan on leaving the bolt in the white. I"m just curious about whether or not the extractor ring will retain any of the jeweling. I have polished all of the old finish off of the bolt, including the extractor ring becuase I was weary about removing it. I plan on somehow rebluing the extractor.

This is usually left in the white, but I would presume that some of the jeweling would show. Try jeweling something else and applying blue to it.

I think you'll be fine. Jeweling is more of a texturing than a finish.
