I just bought my XDm two days ago and I too like the 2 tone better.

But at the time I bought my gun it was on sale and they didn't have it in two tone at any price.

It seems that I seen posts of people getting their slides redone from black to stainless for a reasonable price.

    I just can't remember where.

    Any body know??

    Thanks

    :)

I don't know, but I doubt that you can change the finish. If you can get a stainless slide from SA, that might cost less than getting yours refinished....not sure if you can do either. I agree, though, that the two-tone looks better.

I would also be interested in getting a stainless slide for my XD9 if I could find one decently priced. Anyone know how much they run from SA. Probably a good chunk of change.

You can't get it refinished to a Stainless. Stainless is different than regular steel because it has chromium in it. No chromium, no stainless. There probably are places however that could give it some sort of metal looking finish, but like some others said, it would probably be about as cheap to just get a stainless slide from SA.

I have already called SA and they will not sell a slide of any color.

    Any other suggestions?

I feel your pain man; when i got my XD45, the only one available with the 5" barrel was OD green. I found it very weird having never owned any firearm that wasn't black, blue, or stainless. It grew on me quickly, especially the first time out to shoot when my buddy pointed out that my pullover was the same exact color. I have since put an OD green stock on my SKS.

Give it a chance, IMO. :)

You won't be able to get stainless because it isn't a finish, but you can get a silver finish if that is what you like.

You can do an electroless nickel, and you should be able to find a quality gun smith locally who can do that work for you at reasonable prices.

Another choice would be Robar's NP3 finish. Visit Robar Premium Finishing & Firearms Home Page. Lots of cool pics too.

You would be better off trying to order a new SS slide from Springfield. You can order all the spare parts to repair it why not a spare slide.

Well I solved my problem by selling the black XDm for $35 less than I paid for it.

I found the Tutone on sale and just bought it new.

It ended up being a lot cheaper.

We had our glock slides done in Houston. I can't totally remember the name of the company, it began with an "M" and ended with "ske" or something like that. It was almost 15 years ago and they still look good.

If you just want a shiny slide, you could just take the slide and spend some time on a buffing wheel.
I've seen it done with glocks and it really looks cool, especially with some tru glo style sights.
I have never actually shot one of these home-polished bricks, so I'm not sure if sun glare would be an issue when aiming:confused:

Glare! Damn I never thought of that...definately a point to consider. I really like the look of stainless slides (see pic) but yeah...glare might well be a problem.

Since we have a sh*tload of it down here after all.

I am not sure about the rest of you but a stainless steel pistol is more of a Hollywood gun then anything else at least in my opinon. I for one would not carry one. But that is me and my 2 cents. To each his own. But they are nice looking.

Yeah - aesthetically they do look pretty nice...the 'wow, bling' aspect appeals in that sense. But as for walking onto the range with one...hmm! Think I'll end up with black when that far-off day actually arrives :)

I'd just never thought of the glare thing before.
