I'll be buying a 50cal muzzleloader and wondering if there is any ballistic info (books/websites) for different types of bullets with powder weights.

Thanks

Never cared much about velocities. IMO: Accuracy is more important. A 240-250 grain saboted bullet fired from the barrel of a muzzeloader rifle using 100 measured grains of Pyrodex gives a velocity of about 1,700 fps. Go to the link and click on Black Diamond rifle for more info.

Good luck with your muzzleloader.

I picked up a pretty lil sidelock on closeout the other day, $300 delivered. I haven't gotten to take it out to play yet.

I would like to see ballistics on it myself, though i prefer the old lead round ball myself.

I read years ago that the "Kentucky Crack" from a Kentucky rifle was made when the round ball went super sonic and that was the load that was sought after. I think it is somewhere around 1100 fps but I could be wrong. My .45 long rifle will do it with a patched .440 round ball in front of 75 grains of ffg goex.

What kind of .50 ? Assuming its rifled ,what's the twist? I ask because sabots may not be an option.
