We get it! You have a right to your own world.
And you have a right to yours too.
Wish the government felt that way
As there were no smileys I refer you to post #12, it saved my life.
Yup..They do that....
I have Colt Army Special 38 that belonged to my great grand father. I don't really shoot it much but I plan to buy a couple more 38s eventually.
For a weak little cartridge,it sure stings the hand.
It was sarcasm.
According to Webster's 2013 online dictionary:
Pistol - n., 1. the smallest firearm used, intended to be fired from one hand,-now of many patterns, and bearing a great variety of names. See illustration of revolver.
(They included an illustration of a flintlock pistol with this entry.)
Revolver - n., 1. One who, or at which, revolves; specifically, a firearm (commonly a pistol) with several chambers or barrels so arranged as to revolve on an axis, and be discharged in succession by the same lock; a repeater.
The nomenclature of our discipline is not controlled by laymen, who write dictionaries and wikis.
Just bought my second .38 Spl. The first is a pocket lightweight snubber. This new one is a 4" range gun with target sights.
I am pretty adamant about not shooting 38s from my prized .357s. I'm just stubborn and make no real judgment about what others choose to do. Anyway, it's an excuse to buy another gun and load another caliber.
You are at liberty to choose any nomenclature you desire. I'll continue to use the terminology of the English language to communicate with other humans, which is best defined by authorities such as Merriam Webster and other language experts, not by some YAHOO on an internet forum.
looks like the term pistol is pretty definitive and easy to understand if a person can comprehend plain English.
semi-auto and revolvers are both pistols. a flintlock and a Contender are also pistols too.
i think most people with some common sense can determine if we are talking about 1911's and refer to them as pistols in the course of discussion that a semi-auto is the pistol design being discussed.
Tell that to the handgun manufacturers, not me. Calling people who disagree YAHOOs is not helpful to them or to you.
but YAHOO can be definitive!
Some folks posting with phones etc. can't get smilies to post. just saying.
TROLL is kind of definitive too. We all try (or should) not to be labeled as one.
Unless our mission is to collect tolls on a bridge!
