So I'm the mood for westerns as of late, but I haven't seen too many. What are some good western's out there that everyone should watch? I've seen Tombstone (many times), 3:10 to Yuma, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Unforgiven, Shadowheart, and a number of ones with John Wayne.

What else do I need to watch? I've heard The Magnificent Seven and Lonesome Dove are good, if I can find them anywhere...

Lonesome Dove is outstanding, however, it was a mini-series, so it's four chapters on two discs. It's been out long enough to find excellent used copies. I got mine for twenty bucks at a used bookstore I frequent.

The Magnificent Seven is a classic.

    Some of my favorites are:

    Quigley Down Under
    Silverado
    Pale Rider
    Open Range
    Dances with Wolves
    Broken Trail
    True Grit
    Rooster Cogburn
    The Shootist
    The Outlaw Josie Wales

Two Mules for Sister Sara, I don't know why but I like this one. I watch it every time I come across it on the Tube.

If you're interested in a series or two, "Branded" and "The Rifleman" are amazing, black and white starring Chuck Connors. I own them on DVD, never gets old.

Young Guns is also good, based on the Lincoln County Wars between John Tunstall and Whateverhisnameis. Great cast; Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Philips and other greats..

Try "Hang em high" and "High Planes Drifter" Clint Eastwood westerns. Two of my favorite. Two mules for sister Sarah is also good.

A few somewhat lesser known westerns that I think are very good:

The Missouri Breaks,,,, Jack Nicholson,, Marlon Brando
Nevada Smith and Tom Horn,,,,, Steve McQueen
Going South,, Jack Nicholson,, John Belushi,,Christopher Lloyd,, funny.
    Hombre,,,, Paul Newman

Thanks for all the replies. These should keep me going for a while. I was running out of movies to watch. I'm kind of picky about what I'll pick up at Blockbuster. Maybe I should start a Netflix subscription again just to watch westerns:p

There was a Billy the Kid version with Bob Dylan in it. It was good, too.
