I just bought me a Del-Ton Echo 316 w/ Magpul and it already has a front sight. I was just planning on buying a rear sight but instead i am thinking a scope, red dot, something cheap but good. I sort of want something that will work with the front sight so i do not have to take it off, but any recommendations are helpful. Thanks!

So you have a front sight? And want to buy a rear sight?

$60 will easily buy the excellent Magpul MBUS2 rear sight. For a RDS, you can catch the Bushnell TRS-25 on sale for around $80, I couldn't recommend any RDS cheaper than that. I use this combination on a couple ARs with excellent results.

Perfect combo for me as well. I was skeptical of the TRS-25 but after a year of good service with my first one I bought another. No problems with either. I don't know if it would hold zero for years on a 12 gauge but it does just fine on a 5.56 AR.

You will need a mount. A little embarrassed to recommend UTG but they have $10 mounts with short, medium and tall risers. I like the tall one which gives a bottom 1/3 cowitness. The medium gives absolute cowitness.

    Amazon has them.

Do you even need a rail? I know that the top of the gun has some sort of rail system already on it. Can't the scope go right on top of the gun? Or will a separate rail be needed?

    -Newb question- (Most likely)

    Newb question #2:

What does cowitnesses and such do with the height of the riser? And again, like i said above, why do i need a riser? Thanks!

I have used the UTG as well with no problems. I usually avoid their stuff like the plague but a friend I respect a lot had one and recommended it. So far for the money, its been great.

If anyone gets around to seeing this, I was wondering if i bought a red dot for my gun would i necessarily have to remove the front sight? The gun i ordered has a front sight already on it. Would i have to remove it or could i line up the red dot with it? And again about those riser mounts. If i get one too high or too low it might not line up with the front sight!

Ok. After my post saying I use a UTG riser mount and it is good, I will tell you that almost anything else except a few UTg items are crap. I wouldn't trust anything electronic of theirs.

Riser height will affect how high that sight sits on your receiver, and how much of your front sight is visible as you look though the dot sight. Absolute cowitness would put your front sight right in the middle if the window pretty much. Lower 1/3 co witness would put the dot sight up higher so that the front sight would only be visible in the lower 1/3 of the window. Not having a riser would likely put the front sight base in the entire window of the dot sight. None are a really big deal, with a dot sight and keeping both eyes open one eye will
Look at the dot and the other should look at the target and your brain puts the dot on the target. Some folks still find that more than 1/3 of the window having the front sight in it is too distracting so they prefer a lower 1/3 cowitness. Other folks like absolute cowitness, because it is kind of like looking through a ghost ring or aperture rear sight.

It really comes down to personal preference and what is mist comfortable.

I also have used the TRS25 from Bushnell, on an AR for over a year, and one season on a .30-30, as a bit if an experiment. It's still doing fine.

Don't be too embarrassed Quentin I just put a 13" UTG single rail on my top shelf 6.8 upper($900). After handling it, YHM, a PSA quad rail and a Daniel Defense the UTG won. The selling points for me were great barrel nut system, solid fitup, low weight and of course the price!:p

UTG seems to be stepping up their game. I do agree to stay away from their electronics but this one is a gem. Everyone else that reviewed it seems to like it as much as I did. The 13" is just out, they have had a 7" and 9" for a while now.

Link to product, $104 + free ship its a lot of rail for the money.

Alright im starting to get the picture. Since my gun does not even come with a rear sight would it be smart for me to buy a red dot and a rear sight? It just has a built in front sight
