Hello Americans! Usually when you ask which handgun is "the best" theyve shot, people answer some gun they own themselves. Therefore, logically, I would ask you which gun is the best you have tried, that you dont own yourself. You could categorise the guns(self-defence, carry, range etc...)

(Also, i would like to know how we pay here, to be a "supporting membership"? As you may understand, im from Norway, Europe; would there be any difference in the way you pay here? I would like to get access to the political forum, so that i could strike a blow against socialism(my country is sadly one of the most socialist countries :S !).)

God bless America and the Constitution!

S&W M&P 9 is the best gun I have shot I don't own. My wife owns the S&W. I can shoot it any time she is home. I have shot more expensive pistols but they were range toys. If a gun doesn't have a practical use I am not going to buy it. I have an XD tactical that falls into range toy category. I will sell it or trade it. I am tired of all the BS at pistol ranges. I can shoot whenever i like on my own property.

A Marine Corps issue Colt M1911A1. It was probably Korean War vintage, totally broke-in, bluing worn off in places, a slide like melted butter.

I had a Beretta 76S, but sold it (that was when I was younger and dumber).

Great logic behind a best pistol topic, Norwegian! It's certainly a way to reduce bias and "fanboyism". Welcome to FTF and freer thinking than your government approves of. Come to think of it, the US federal government is the much same and slowly eroding our freedom too. :(

Anyway, for self defense I have to agree with John_Deer and go with the S&W M&P 9, or probably its 40S&W version. It's an excellent choice but instead I bought the Glock 23 compact 40S&W and a 40-9mm conversion barrel.

For plinking I really like the Browning Buckmark but bought the Ruger Mark II instead.

For a revolver I've loved the S&W Model 29 44 Magnum for four decades but instead bought the S&W Model 19 357 Magnum in 1976 which honestly was the right choice for me.

The interesting thing to mull over, if things go right you should be getting everyone's second choice however does that truly give you the "best" choice? If a large enough and truthful response, then yes it could.

    Most are revolvers.

I had a nice Smith and Wesson K-22 target masterpiece that i sold when I was younger and dumber.

I had a Model 29 thta I sold because it had an 8 and 3/8 inch barrel, but would replace it with a 4-6 inch barrel if one presents itelf at the right price.

    S&W model 19 .357 mag.

Also a High Standard Victory model, target .22. Shot one in Navy rimfire matches and it was great.

A Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail (CBOB) thta a firend had, made a great size and fit for carry.

Thank You for your uplifting comment. Many of us believe this is a great country, "warts" and all.

One of my "older" friends, who began serving during the Vietnam Era as an NCO, and Became an Officer after that(now a Ret. Lt. Col.) bought a SIG P238 about a year and a half ago. He says what many here say: it's like someone shrunk a 1911 down to 2/3rd size. It has the cleanest, sweetest single action trigger pull of any semi-auto I have ever shot, and I own 2 Gold Cups!!
Back then, My wife was only dabbling in semi autos at the time, and even she admitted that" IT was very easy" to run. The other one we did not shoot, but attended the Press Event for at SHOT, the Walther PPQ-22! You can work that slide with "Two Fingers curled Up"

Thank you for a good reply! As you say, this only works is People are honest, and simply dont Write their own guns! I think it reduses some of this fanboyism. I have a topic on eroding freedoms i America in this forum, you should check it out. I dont think i have Access to it anymore, due to me not being a supportive member yet.
