What is the best cheese for making grilled cheese sanswiches?

    I prefer a good provolon.

Look at taste meltability and any other aspect you like..

For some variety substitute a kaiser roll for the bread, flip it inside-out so the doughy middle is facing the heat and butter it like you would the bread then place it in a sandwich or panini grill...good stuff.

Actually, my Kraft cheese comment aside, I love good cheese. We got lucky when we moved here, there's a cheese shop three blocks from our house. The proprietor cuts all her stock for sampling and you can taste every cheese she sells. She also features different cheeses from different countries on a regular basis. She also sells regional cheeses that aren't generally available.

I just like american cheese for the gooeyness with some sharp cheddar grated on it for a little more bite. If it wasn't so hot here I would want tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich right now. MMM, MMM, good.

American process cheese? That's sacrilege! Only Cheez Whiz could possibly be worse.

Medium or sharp cheddar is my favorite, with a slice of ham on sliced sourdough and toasted to perfection.

Anybody use those cast iron campfire clamshells to make a grilled cheese? My boys say that is the best way but to me they are too small. Besides that they are right! Nothing like a grilled cheese over the campfire!

I don't think one cheese is enough. Sharp cheddar with Muenster are my picks. They need to be on nice thick slices of whole wheat or seven grain bread.

I can't pick just one, or even two, cheeses for a grilled cheese sammich. Depends on what I'm in the mood for, and most any cheese may strike my fancy at any given time.

I like a combination of Velvetta and Provolone with a nice, hot bowl of tomato soup so I can keep it real when I was first on my own and this was a "payday" meal when I was "celebrating". :D

Don't listen to Yunus, I broke bread with him today and that kid eats healthy for the fun of it. I take him to a burger and steak house and he gets a salmon sammich. :D:cool:
