so my dad made an awesome batch of baked beans tonight. he used 1 1/2 bag of northern beans, 1/2 cup molasses, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, in a pottery pot, not the Dutch oven. baked at 250f for 8hrs. gave me the idea to find other great recipes. so lets hear them boys and girls!!!! :D

Yea, everyone here pretty much uses bacon or fat back for seasoning, which sucks for me because I'm allergic to pork and I can't eat beans unless I make them myself. I'm liking the sound of the first recipe! :)

Now what I really want to know is how to get the gas out of beans. Dry beans really do a number on my stomach. I've literally been afraid to light a cigarette for fear of the fumes!

one of those cooking things i learned from my grandmother. she would slow cook a pot of pinto beans on the stove with a huge chunk of salt pork in it. she would also put just a little bit of sugar in them too.

now when she cooked butter beans, she would use a hambone. slow cooked on the stove just the same way as her pinto beans. again with just a little sugar in them.

she did the fried in the cast iron skillet cornbread. heated up the skillet on the stove, poured in the cornbread, let it sear just a little then finish cooking in the oven.

they were good. the wife and i do them in a slow cooker now, but the rest is pretty close to hw my granny did them.

some of those pinto beans, cornbread, fresh sliced onion, soft fried potatos, and thin sliced steak that is pan fried with gravy made from the drippings. mmmmm good!:D

ain't no meal for a person with heart problems that's for sure!:p
