I've been using the Federal Hydra Shok in my Sig228 for 27 years, in my NAA .32 for 10 years and in my Glock 27 for 5 years. They always go boom every time I squeeze the trigger. I know of 2 who had to use them to end a bad situation. I would think additional references would just be the icing on the cake.I generally use Winchester 230gr FMJ for practice. Reasonably cheap and clean.
People will have their favorites but I don't think there is really a lot of difference between the premium JHP rounds from the major manufactures.
Some will dismiss Hydra-Shok as outdated but in .45 at least they still show good performance in gel testing. Plus they can be found if more economical 50 round LE packaging. (Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST are also available this way and are my normal choice in both 9mm and .45 ACP.
I like the Speer Gold Dot a lot, but I think the Hydra Shok would make a perpetrator dance a little more if hit.
