I'm in the market for a 20" AR15 platform. I'm looking for a lot of suggestions. Fire away!
To do what?
A rifle built for Service Rifle matches?
For p-dog hunting?
To look like an A1 or an A2?
Colt comes to mind for just a general A2 20" rifle type, but there are other manufacturers who make some specialized hunting and match models where you may get more bang for your buck.
Love my Bushmaster XM15, 20" heavy barrel, very fun too shoot and A2 style furniture.
The main companies that make 20" AR 15s in Germany are Schmeisser, Oberland Arms and Hera Arms. They are high quality and very expensive. I am doing a range report this weekend on my Hera Arms 15th Dynamic that I will pick up tomorrow. I have a 16.75" barrel, but it comes in the longer barrel too. The three main companies cater to IPSC competition standards, but they are excellent and accurate hunting rifles too. Sig and HK AR platforms have 16 (16.5?)inch barrels. You can get Oberland and Schmeisser in the states. Hera exports parts to the states, but I am not seen complete rifles.
I've looked at the busaster products and then only one that comes close to what I am looking for us the "dissipator" buts it's still a 16"
Armalite, Colt, DPMS and Rock River Arms, all offer 20 inch rifles.
do you want a flat top or one with a carry handle?
What do you wan to use it for? That can make a big difference in what recommendations you get.
It should be a lot easier to find a 20" AR now than a couple months ago. BCM has nice 20" uppers. But you should answer SSGN_Doc's questions, we can only give generic answers to a vague original question.
Bushmaster has a few 20" and 20"+ models available.
Or is it that you're wanting the front sight all the way to the end of the barrel?
I have a 16" and I want a 20". I originally didn't want one but now after a year or two looking at the 20" I would really like to have one of both. I'm just a recreational shooter. I know I won't buy top notch gear, I was just having a lot of trouble finding a 20" with my research for some strange reason.
I found two Rock River Arms ones you might want to look at.
A4 (removable handle). $999.
A2 (non removable handle). $899.
DPMS Panther Classic.
Just kind of giving you an idea what is out there and what you can expect to pay.
I paid around $800 for my 20", it was about a year ago, I remember it had been sitting on the shelf and all the 16's had sold off, but it stayed stuck for about two months and I somehow managed to afford it.
Guess 20's aren't all that popular compared to the 16's, I don't get why.
Jp enterprises for long range work, expensive though
