We have military spec 00 Buckshot loaded, after the dogs deter them of course and they persist.

Yes. Tried to edit the post. I meant 12 gauge. My concern is stopping power. If I have a intruder in my home I want them stopped. Not winged. I've read on line about everything from 8 bird shot will suffice to nothing other then 00 buck.

00bk is the world standard for home defence & cqb. Another good option is 3" high velocity bb shells. Ass tons of pellets, still plenty large enough to kill & more pellets than buck shot. I would recomend the HV bb shot at 20 yards plus though, 00bk is still the best cqb load, use magnum loads if you have the sholder for it. Also, look up Winchester pdx1-12. Is 1 hollowpoint rifles slug with 3, 00bk shot on top. Another option from the pdxq-12 line is a fragmenting slug, I doubt it's as effective though.

In and around a house? #1 Buckshot. Staying inside or likely going outside it, #4 Buckshot or #0 Buckshot, respectively.

#00 Buckshot is what happens to be on the shelves, like Collard Greens in some places, so the internet parrots this often.

whatever you happen to choose, test them out for yourself at the distances they would be used within the home. don't just buy something on the say so of us here on a forum and assume they will work. test them and practice with them. when a BG breaks into your home is not the time to find out if they work or if you were prepared for the recoil, or if they even feed reliabily in your shotgun. be prepared and practice.

i know what works in my shotguns and what works everytime i pull the trigger, because i have tested it and practiced with it. too many times people just buy a firearm and some ammo and then stick it in the corner and never try it out. sadly they may find out too late how that works out.

bad advice guys. when you step out of the house and pursue a BG after he has left, it's no longer SD, but possibly attempted murder or manslaughter.

when you shoot at a BG, and whether you hit him or not and he leaves the residence and you pursue him outside the residence, you have just moved into some dangerous legal areas that could land you in jail. just something to think about.

First round out is 9 pellet rubber buck shot. If they keep on pushing next
2 rounds are milspec 9 pellet 00 buck. And if the criminal wont go down with those i have a 1oz slug as a last resort.

if that 9 pellet rubber buckshot is considered less than lethal, that's a poor choice to advise someone to use.

Yes it is and every one deserves a chance. Being on a 3ed floor ill give u a chance if the shotgun is my hd for the day. People do lose there way, i dont know if yoy have ever been hit with rubber round? But i have i had my best friend use a few rounds on me. Ill tell you that after being shot i could barly get back up. And if you do keep on coming you wont live. End of story.

wrong perspective to have. my viewpoint is this, a BG breaks into my home, he's not there for tea and cookies. he's a threat to me andmy family. he knew exactly what he was doing when he broke into my home, to do serious bodily damage and to rob me of my possessions. therefor IMO, he deserves no chances whatsoever, as in none.

in my home, we play by house rules. my house, my rules. whatever allows me and my family to remain vertical and the BG to go out horizontal is what i will use.

now i see where you are want to give someone the benefit of the doubt, and that's greatly humane and very kind of you, but with a BG breaking into your home, that's not the time for niceness or humanity. and what if the BG is hopped up on drugs? well, you might not get the chance to see if your next round is going to stop him. you might be dead. if you have any reasoning power, you might give my suggestions some thought, because with your thinking as it is now, your own shotgun could be your worst enemy.

warning shots, shooting to wound or using less than lethal rounds is a recipe for disaster and IMO, you are ill prepared for using any firearm for SD. you minght give some serious thought to your choices.

I think he may have been referring to legal implications. (edit to add: I see I was mistaken. What follows is still my opinion)

If I were a prosecutor, I would push that you obviously weren't truly in fear for your life if you're using less than lethal ammo.

That said, I'm not a prosecutor. But the second chance I give is the sound of my safety clicking off.

    good point Trip.

IMO, if in fear of my safety or that of my family, then i'm prepared to use deadly force in defence of myself or my family.

Unless of course, you live in AZ. Fight starts in the house you can finish it in the street. Hot pursuit. God I love AZ!
