Which would you recommend for range use, defense & occasional carry

Beretta $549.00 or sig for about $200 more?

    I'd choose the P239.

But you're talking about two almost diametrically opposing guns in their design. The Beretta is bulky, has lots of switches and catch points, and for most it's not a great carry choice. It'll do just fine as a range/home defense gun though. The Sig is slim and built for carry. The only real knock on the P239 (besides price) would be its limited capacity.

The Sig would be my call, but I really think the best answer is to expand your search beyond those two models.

Of those 2 choices, I would probably go with the Sig if you plan on carrying it. But I sure want a Beretta!

I currently have a Glock 21 for shtf, Glock 27 for carry, a sig mosquito & a ruger sr9c because I thinks it's pretty bad a--....just looking to expand my collection & was hoping I could get some feedback to help the decision

I never see any love for the Beretta on these threads. Is it a mediocre weapon?

I own both. I definitely pull for Tue Sig. It's much better. It just seems higher quality.

In my opinion, yes. I think a CZ 75b essentially fits into all the same classifications (style, size, weight, controls, etc) at a similar price, and is a far superior gun. I also like its slimmer profile. I'd say the same about a BHP, but it's a little more expensive.

But the M9 has no shortage of loyal followers, so take my opinion as just that. And it can be a good option for someone who prefers a larger grip.

To your original question- If the price and size to capacity ratio of the P239 don't deter you, then that's what I'd probably suggest. And maybe give CZ a look.

Yeah don't think for a second that Beretta is inferior. I love my M9. Most people on here will probably say Sig, and I can't deny that Sig makes a mighty fine handgun. But personally, I would go with the M9. I have bigger hands so it fits like a glove, and throws whatever I make it eat more accurately than any Sig I have shot. I'd take a 92 anyday. I'd take a 92 over a BHP.

    Yeah.. I said it... :p

There's nothing wrong with the quality of Beretta. They are well made and perform flawlessly. However, the two weapons here are different altogether. One is a full size double-stack duty weapon the other is a low capacity single stack compact. It's like chooseing between a SUV or a compact car...doesn't make sense until you sort out your needs first.

I agree, the Beretta is by no means a inferior weapon, quite to the contrary. On this board there doesn't seem to be an appreciation for them, but speaking from experience, they make a fantastic gun. I have a half-dozen of their handguns and all perform flawlessly. In my opinion, that's why you buy a gun, especially for self defense. It can look cool and all that, but if it doesn't work 100% of the time, it's a paper weight, again, in my opinion.

I agree the 92 is not a good carry piece unless you're comfortable with that big of a gun. I suggest you look at the Beretta Cougar. I think their made by Stoeger now, but I have one in 9mm and one in .45 ACP, and they function perfectly and are more the size your looking for if your going to carry.

I really like the Beretta family - I have the 86, 92 and 96. They are very classy, work flawlessly, are battle tested, and comparable in price to others in their class.

I agree the 92 is too big to carry for most, so if that is your primary goal, you may want to look elsewhere, otherwise, give it a good consideration - it is a fine weapon.

For size comparison, here is the easily carried 86F .380 along side the 96G .40 which is the same frame as the 92FS

Agre with sweeper. If you're going to carry, the P239 is the way to go.
Had both, the Sig is still my edc.

    I vote Beretta :)

Drop in a $6 "D" factory spring, and ya take off 3+ lbs on the Da pull and almost 1 lb off the SA pull.

Get a 92 compact if ya wan something closer in size. But, with the longer barrel and sight radius, plus the lower poundage of the D spring making that 1st DA shot lighter... I'd say that you could likely shoot the 92 over longer distances more accurately than the 239 with the shorter slide/barrel...

Either weapon is good but you must compare apples to apples - - - compare models that are both the same size and type.

Thanks for the feedback...I realize that they are completely different but was looking to add to my collection. I went w the beretta for $250 less & it really is an awesome weapon. Put 300 rds through it today & was thoroughly impressed. The sig will be my next purchase though....looked closely at that 239 today
before I bought the beretta & can't wait to add that one soon
