Call me crazy but I don't care! I just watched "Battle Los Angeles" and that movies sure freaked me out. It wasn't so much the aliens but the invasion. Afterwards I thought to myself I need to get everything in and plan for the worse!!! Debating between the AK/AR systems and a serious amount of munitions:cool::cool:

The AK is cheaper, but the AR is more accurate and more adaptable to the "invasion" theory.

I have not seen the movie yet, but I have taken Red Dawn to heart since VERY early on in my life.

Yeah. I have extensive "counter-insurgency" weapons and ammo for all.

I think you will find that several members here feel the same way.

I found it interesting how the marines were getting full auto out of 3 round burst weapons...

Well if you go by the movie it takes them about 4 people dumping a full mag of 5.56 and following it up with a gernade to kill 1, so i would say get a AK, hits harder, or get a shotgun and bait them in close enough to lay the boom stick.

Saw the movie and it was good although it was a little cheesy at points. Of course so was Red Dawn.
In the 80's or 90's the invasion threat seemed like it would be someone using com-bloc 7.62 or 5.45 arms. The AK would be a great choice for "pick up" ammo and arms.
Today I think the threat would more likely carry a NATO chambering.;) The AR is a great accurate and reliable option for a SHTF rifle IMO.
Although I'm looking to add a 5.45 to the collection soon:D

granted some of the movie was not accurate it was a great cinematic adventure and that's all it is A movie to look at the scenario of Wrol or an invasion you have to look at logistics. Now you have to calculate weather or not an enemy can logistically proceed with a first strike let alone commence with an invasion on a coastal or by coastal scale at this time the only countries that could do that to us at this time or in the near future would be china and a combined soviet union. And then you have to look at sustainability if they would have the manpower after they invaded this heavily armed country with its extensive armed forces and then it's armed civilian population and then you narrow the field even more to china. Then look at economics would there be any benefit to the extreme loss of life that this all would entail and the answer is no it would be more likely that an enemy would try to break us economically first we are more likely to be taken from within than by an outside force:cool:

Frankly, I'm not concerned with outside forces invading our Country. Anyway, if it were to happen, I believe they will be wearing blue helmets.

I believe that the socialist left in this Country is much more of a real danger.

I won't be going to the movie, although I may eventually rent it. In my opinion, with the exception of a few of our members, the destruction of LA would be a blessing to California.

Kinda doubt we'll have an outer space alien invasion; the southern alien invasion is doing far more damage at the moment. Red Dawn was awesome, and I hate the thought that a remake is being done - it will be terrible.
I agree any foreign military here will be invited UN Peacekeepers, and likely the beginning of the end.

I much more believe this country will first destroy itself from within, politics will lead to such a corruption of our system that a civil war will start. Timing is critical though. The economy will have to plummet even further than depression levels, essentials (not internet, but food and power) have to stop reaching people, and then there has to be a scapegoat (government, communists, republicans, facists, etc.) to target. People will then need to be motivated to polarize.

SHTF rifle, AR15 and AK47. ARs are light, and so is the ammo. If there is foreign backing, it will be with either 5.56 or 5.45/7.62 depending on the country. But I don't think ANYONE in their right mind would invade an America at war with itself. The aftermath is different.

During a civil war I'd lay low. Its the weakened America afterwards thats vulnerable to the blue helmets or some eastern coalition. Thats the day I fear. After the initial fighting stops...

To cap it off, Red Dawn is great (albeit corny in some spots) if aliens invade we are either set or beyond screwed, and California... I'm not even gonna touch that subject. Thats a whole other thread.

STHF... Aliens, Zombies, ... zombie-aliens... Could go either AK/AR. But if it were
invading forces, they would most likely have body armor. In that case, i think I would
need to go AR + Steel core. Too bad I can't buy any in Commy-fornia. I guess I'll be
head shots just like the zombies.

    Aliens?

No, I think we all know what we're really getting prepared for...

I would say go with an AK-47, but are those third party brand AK's as reliable as a real Russian made AK-47?

    According to Muzzle Energy Computer
The 223x45 has a muzzle energy of 939 ft lbs @ 100 yards
The 7.62x39 has a muzzle energy of 1180 ft lbs @ 100 yards
21% more energy than AR-15 say WA!?

Is it just the drop-off at distance that makes the AR have a longer effective range?

pretty much. but its only a 7% difference at 100yds not 21%

the ak is really pushing the accuracy barrier at 100yds and is barely prducing more energy than the 556, at 150yds the energy starts to drop very rapidly, at 200yds its starting to measure its hitting power in ounces and bullet drop in feet. its very similar to the 300blackout. the 556 retains far far more energy at much longer ranges. the usable range of the 556 is way better than the 762x39.

the difference tween 556 and 762x39 is the 762 can hit the target the 556 can pick the spot on the target to hit...

the rapid bullet drop and extremely rapid energy bleed is one of the really big reasons we dont use a similar round. the 556 is far more cost effective and way more useful than the 762x39

    Jon M,
The 7.62x39 is generally cheaper when I look up ammo pricing per round.

Personally I would rather have the lighter further flying, more accurate round
than the latter. Especially since I want to engage the Zombie-Aliens or invading
forces from as far a distance as possible.

I would also like a lot of hand grenades, is that possible? At the very least
    flash bangs.

Actually the cost of steel case .223 and 7.62x39 is about the same - often about 20 cents a round.

I've been seeing those, too. I am betting that they are by invitation only.
