I've got a theater here that shows second runs and we just went to see Battle: Los Angeles, a movie I've been waiting for since I first saw the preview.

It did not seem cheesy to me in any way, and I've got a very sensitive cheese sniffer. I've never been in the military, but as an avid reader, what I saw looked extremely plausible to me, except for the amazingly quick deployment. There's no way today, with a war on 3 fronts, could we even begin to deploy like they did in this movie.

    The weapons:
-Seemed extremely accurate to what our forces carry (again, I've got very limited 1st-hand knowledge) and showed the limitations of carrying ammo. It is not as if every rifle had unlimited ammo.
    -Were not invincible.

    The characters:
-Had a believable balance of fear and bravado.
-Portrayed a very realistic picture of the tension in the command structure of a platoon.

    The aliens:
    -Were prepared and well-armed.
-Had abilities that seemed very plausible (albeit foreign), but weren't supermen who could do anything.

I loved it! What did y'all think?

    Edit:

    2 cheese points:

-The sea levels were already (after 24 hours) going down measurably because of use by the aliens. Come on!

-There were never any weapons malfunctions and the main platoon didn't clean their weapons after a day-long battle.

I really liked that move as well, I generally like war movies and I generally like sci-fi type movies and this had both. The main thing that bothered me was the thing that bothers me about all movies with the premise of us being invaded by aliens. We would not win in real life. If an alien race has the technology to not only get to earth but to bring weapons and supplies and troops than they are so far ahead of us in technology we would appear to them like ants appear to us. We know ants have a social structure to some extent and build stuff... but they are no threat to us. That is probably how aliens would view humans.

Other than that, I thought it was an excellent movie, and I dont want to see a movie of humans losing anyway :D

I'm not sure that your premise is correct: If a force has the technology to get here then their technology would be no match for us. One of the best aspects of this movie was that their superior technology was not infinite, which is much more believable than some super-duper ray gun that kills everything but turns the land green with happiness and rainbows.

Any destructive weapon would have the nasty side-effect of making the land useless or uninhabitable. Whereas a conventional force from aliens that made it here would necessarily be superior to ours, but not invincible.

The colonists beat the Red Coats.
