    Quick! Someone call Mythbusters!

I have serious doubts - I think centerfire pistol rounds WILL penetrate most tubs ( certainly the fiberglas type ).

We need the Mythbusters to do a segment on this.

    :D

    Bathtubs

Fiberglass, of course. Cast Iron, not likely. Porcelain, doubt it. They are actually porcelain coated cast iron.

    Name that movie!

Hmmmm sounds like a trip to a local scrap yard where the owner lets me shoot is in order. Lets put together a list of calibers to test.

:note all rounds will be FMJ

    1.) 9mm
    2.) .40S&W
    3.) .45acp
    4.) .357 mag
    5.) .38spl
    6.) .380

Thats all the pistol calibers I have, but I will do rifle rounds as well.

    1.) 5.56x45
    2.) 7.62x39
    3.) 5.45x39
    4.) 7.62x51
5.) and last but not least 300 WSM :D

Don't know about bullet penetration of cast iron, but I do know I would be pleasantly surprised to find Minnie Driver hiding in my tub, with or without the pistol.

The movie in question was "Gross Pointe Blank"

I don't think ANY tub will stop a center fire rifle round. I suspect almost all of the pistol rounds will penetrate most tubs as well.

How can a fiberglass tub stop a bullet? They are pretty thin. I don't think any tube will stop something the size of 9mm or bigger. The old Cast Iron clawfoot tubs probably stand the best chance of deflecting a bullet or at least absorbing enough to where they would penetrate very deep. I do know for a fact a toilet will not stop a bullet, and creates a whole lot of shrapnel in the way of tiny bits of sharp ceramic. That was with a .45 though, it was fun:D

LOL Good one. I'd sure try and talk her into dropping that gun!
I don't think most common self defense calibers would penetrate a cast iron tub. Even FMJ. It would be interesting to find out though.

Cool video but was that cast iron or sheet metal? I looked pretty thin to me.

    The movie with Minnie Driver

was "Grosse Point Blank", improbably silly, yet very satisfying for all the Hollywood-style impossible gunplay!
