On double barrel shotguns, do they usually have the ability to make both barrels fire at once? Would this produce quite a bit of kickback?

If it has 2 triggers you can pull them both at once, but with single trigered gun you can fire only 1 barrel at a time, and yes they have twice the recoil when you shoot them bith at once.

You can pull both triggers of a double barrel at the same time and both barrels will fire.
This causes a great deal of stress on the barrel welds and locking mechanism. It also increases the felt recoil.
