So I'm wanting to build/buy my first AR. I thought I knew what I needed to know but apparently I don't. My end goal would be to get a 50 beowulf upper. According to Alexander Arms their 50 beowulf uppers work on a 223 lower. However as I've done more research several sources say a 308 upper won't work on a 223 lower. So can somebody explain the compatibility?

    Google says it will work.

I am guessing a phone call or email before you purchase would be in order, if you have doubts.

Cause you can find anything on the interwebs.

But they are saying their uppers work on a standard AR-15. You should be good to go if a mil-spec lower is what you have.

The Beowulf will work on an AR15 lower.

These calibers will work on AR15 lower.

    17 Remington
    19 Calhoun
    204 Ruger
    25-223
    6 x 45
    the TCUs
    6.5 MPC
    300 Blackout/Whisper
    7mm Whisper
    7.62x40

    Non-223 case, standard mags
    450 Bushmaster
    458 SOCOM
    458 RMW ("SOCOM lite")
44 AMP (RMW) - need spacer in mag
45 Win Mag (RMW) - need spacer in mag
50 AE - need spacer in mag
440 CorBon - need spacer in mag
50 GI - need spacer in mag
    50 Beowulf

Let not forget the magazine well! .308 is just too long to squeeze into a AR15 magazine/well.

This would not preclude a single shot (bolt action or the much lauded SLoBBER action).

.50 Beo is sized right with the AR15 mag in mind.

Like texas said the beowulf will work just fine on any standard AR lower.

Here are some pics of my Alexander Arms standard 50 Beowulf Upper on a standard AR lower, shoots great.

I bet that sucker is fun to shoot. Makes the 5.56 look like a .22. Wait a second... :D

Lol I probably won't either but for me it's one of those "just cause" guns.

They are said to work well on rampaging water buffalo or (if using the brass spitzer and/or FMJ rounds) on penetrating engine blocks to stop cars cold.

The EBRD is telling me I 'need' a 458 Socom.

Am trying to hold off the EBRD until I get set up for reloading. Cause I sure don't need to be buying 458 ammo retail. And of course, if I buy another upper, I will 'need' another lower to go with it...

It is highly contagious. And no known cure. Not that any gun owners are looking for a 'cure'. :D
