I'm trying to decide between a 50 bmg, the 416 Barrett or the .338 lapua MRAD.

    50- m82a1
    416-m82a1
.338 lapua- the new Mrad bolt rifle that Barrett came out with

Check out the Barrett 98B also. If I had the cash, my pick would be the fifty. I would search for one marked M107 over the 82A1 mark if I was the buyer.

I think the 107 is a larger frame rifle than the 82.

My only issue with the 50 and 416 is i have no place to safely shoot one.

If that wasnt an issue i would go 50bmg just because of its beastly nature

    Randy,

I have shot my share of 50 BMGs and they are good rounds for punching metal. But being an accuracy freak I prefer the 338 Lapua due to several reasons. One of which it is a very accurate round. Second you can reload it for around $2.50. The factory ammo price is close to the others at $5 - $7. Third You can load them in a standard RCBS Rock Chucker Press due to the 50 being too long case wise. And to me the recoil is slightly less. I also know the 416 performs very well according to study but I personally have never shot that caliber. Finally Ronnie Barret makes some fine weapons so you can not go wrong with any model they make. Not to mention they are good people at Barret. I live an hour and a half from the plant and their customer service is also good.
