I take it you mean their AR line of rifles.

For the money i would prolly go larue or pof or someone else who has been doing high end ar15 longer. For that sort of money i would personally let others be their test monkies until they getmore experience at it

The real question is, Why not?
I'd take one in a heart beat. I'd probably only fire about 10 rounds per year, but damn it, I'd have fun with those 10 rounds.

That's my point. It's expensive, violent and harsh which translates to collecting dust. If I didn't have the financial restrictions that I do and was into long range stuff I'd feel better about it sitting in the back corner of the safe.

That's the sentiment I'm talking about. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) there's no way I could get one, much less feed it.

    Got One?

    Nope.

Got two barretts, 99 and 82A1. They make a rugged rifle. The only problem I have ever had was with an extractor and they made it right by mailing me one that day.

Easy to Maintain, easy to break down and clean. (Full Shop rag maybe needed for barrel patch) Absolute ***** to haul around.

Feeding? Not a problem. 50 Bmg is getting cheaper everyday. You can purchase surplus for less than $2.00 a round. If and when you make the jump -get some good glass, as your going to need it.

Better yet? Tac 50 by Macmillian I have shot one mile with it. It is the difference between driving a Chevy and a Mercedes. The Chevy will certainly get you where you are going, the Mercedes will get you there quicker and in great style.

I have shot three different motor blocks and even API did not got through them. the round will got through the water jacket and into and through the cylinder, but not even one went through the second water jacket. Your findings and observations may be different.

I will close with a quote from "TJ Pilling" from Tiger Valley in Waco Tx. "Owning a 50 BMG is like a prom date with big tits, everyone wants to look and wished they were you. Jmac

Lol, not everyone. I do like the quote though.

  12. I love statements like this. Everybody and their favorite pet are assembling ARs at home as fast as they can and bragging about how they've built a rifle better than they can buy from a manufacturer - and now we're supposed to believe that Barrett who has been selling rifles since 1982, and who has designed, built, and sold large caliber sniper rifles world-wide, can't build an AR because they don't have enough experience?

So, let me see if I understand this, you can build them at home because anyone can put an AR together, but it's too tricky for Barrett and you need to wait for them to work out all of the kinks...okay, if it's dead simple easy at home, how does it get so difficult for Barrett?

I would trust my life to a Barrett long before anyone's "home brew" build, regardless of the manufacturers of the parts.

  15. That's sort of the whole point. People are quick to jump onto the PSA bandwagon without a second thought strictly because they're cheap - but, Barrett's AR has to be "proven" to work for some undetermined length of time before it's legitimate because it's expensive. What's really funny about the original statement is the inclusion of POF. Barrett was doing R&D on their original M468 AR in 6.8 SPC when POF was filing their LLC papers in Arizona - making the statement about who's "been doing highend ARs longer" bad advice from someone who has an opinion but no facts.

I have info. on Barrett machining and it is definitely well above par. Certain tolerances are specific to heat treating and before. Checked meticulously. Also, several other checks throughout the entire manufacturing process before assembly starts. Unlike some other brands I've seen, they are definitely top shelf.
