    I'm interesting.

And I've been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit.

I've never made Australia. So when the wife said she'd really like to see it someday, I started doing some research.

Everything in Australia will kill you. You can't put underwear on without shaking it first.

    Eff dat.

And they hate Americans. Better to fly in and make your way to New Zealand where they still love us and they have safer snorkling. :D

I used to think The Croc Hunter went to exotic locales to find exotic creatures.

    Nope.

Sh!T in your bathtub will kill you.

The only thing safe from Australia is Olivia Newton John, and I'm pretty sure SHE doesn't stay there.

My oldest and her then husband spent a month in Australia 4-5 years ago on vacation. What I learned from them:

    1. Yes, there are things everywhere that can eff you up
    2. Overall the food is pretty bad & tasteless (mutton - YUCK)
    3. The people are fun & friendly to hang out with
    4. Those Aussie effer's can consume serious amounts of alcohol

I'd still like to visit someday though...

But Benny, Koalas are safe, right?

We've been hiking in the desert around Gold canyon in AZ. My wife has been saying the same thiings about our surroundings here. Snakes, scorpions, fire ants, she gets squeamish when the trails get narrow and she has to walk near bouldors or brush.
Two years ago my youngest son stepped right over a rattle snake on the Perralta trail and scared my sister pretty bad. I got good photos of it slithering away.

We spent 3 weeks in Australia in 1991 - we happened to be there for 9/11. To a person the Australians were the best. Everywhere we went we were greeted like family. I couldn't think of a place where we would have felt safer or more welcomed than there.

As far as dangerous critters, we did encounter a Tiger snake while we were out hiking around in the bush (somewhere in the top ten most venomous list depending on which list you look at), and we also saw a few man eating salt crocs on a boat tour of a river up in the Daintree Rain forest. Pretty cool! We were not able to see a koala in the wild.

Great wine, and as already mentioned they like to drink it. We actually found the food to be quite good. Yeah, there is a lot of lamb, which I happen to like, but we also found a lot of good beef and great seafood. We even tasted the Vegemite, which I wouldn't go for again, but it really wasn't that bad. I guess it depends where you go.

We met a couple older ladies on one of our tours, and asked them what would be some good Aussie music to remember our trip by. They recommended John Williamson, so we bought a CD while we were down there. Best souvenir we brought home.

QFT! You'll end up sliced from arsehole to breakfast time, you definitely do not want to go hand-to-hand with those things!
