I had lots of fun at the range yesterday! When we first arrived there was a "cowboy shoot" going on, man that was a blast watching them mess around :D. Anyway, I think i did pretty good with my G-17. I spent about 150 rounds at 25 yards. I know i'm a bit off with my groupings, but i'll work on it ;)

Looks good. We go to the range to practice to get better and as long as you know you need improvement then you are on the right path Daniel son. Now if the price of ammo could drop just a smidge.

Anything in the black is minute of zombie. ;)

Just keep practicing and those groups will tighten up. Take your time shooting and get accurate first. Speed comes with practice.

25yrds!! You should bring it in to 25ft imo. That's real self defense distance.

Keep shooting and you'll get better and if you don't, it's still fun. :D

Anytime you can get to the range is a good time. You might want to try and squeeze the trigger. Like Goju said, bring the distance in some.

Thxs for the awesome advice, it is very much appreciated :). Next time we head (which will be this weekend) i will ask the RO if we can move up a bit. I haven't been shooting for bout a decade and forgot we could ask him to do that if everyone is ok with it. BTW, i must admit that for the first time at the range with this weapon I just love it. I was kinda hesitant with it at first, but after 20 rounds or so it really felt good.

25 yards seems awefully far! Good job!

    Isn't the effective range of a Glock 17 50 yards-ish?

My favorite is to go to the dollar store and pick up
a pack of playing cards. Making tape them to the
cardboard or over a used target. If you can hit the
    card, you're in good shape.

After one card has been shot a few times, place
another over it. The full-frontal confrentation could
happen however, I think another likely scanariao would
be hostage, where you don't get much room to shoot
or trying to hit a guy peeking from behind cover.

Now, if i could jsut find a range that'll let me double-tap.

I like practicing at further distances because in a defense situation you are not going to be your best. If I practice at 15yds then I'm all the better at 7.

25 Yards seems like a good distance. If you can hit the target at that distance, you can hit the target at a closer distance. (like Carpenter says)

OT: what dictates an "effective range" ?

I watch these videos all the time.Hickok is a great shot! 230 yds!! WOW!! Just goes to show pistol accuracy in the right hands! I wish my hands were anywhere NEAR that good. I need some serious practice....Id like to be able to ding 50% at 100 yds.. But Ive got a ways to go before im even close to that. Great Post .. Thanks for putting that up!
