I understand what you mean, but I ultimately think it's a good thing. I get the safety aspect that Dem representative Steve Farley brings up in a recent interview:

"We wouldn't give people driver's licenses without requiring training or testing. Why would we give people the ability to carry a concealed weapon anywhere?" said Rep. Steve Farley, D-Tucson.

However, the state already allows people to open carry without testing and permits, so his point is not relevant in this case.

This is something that I'd be most interested in, and I wish Texas allowed it:

Permits also would be required to carry weapons in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

I don't drink and my work requires me to carry expensive photo equip in and out of bars late at night. I'd feel safer if I was able to CC during these times. Currently, you can't carry anywhere in TX that serves alcohol. I get the idea of "drunks and guns don't mix", but what about people like me that would not drink and carry? Just like I don't drink and drive...

PA is a shall issue State. With no training or testing required to get a permit. It is also legal to carry in bars. I haven’t heard of any problems. Open carry is also legal, very few people do.
Has Texas changed there law. The last time I was there it was any place that sells alcohol?

I'm not opposed to it. Lord knows I won't tote any gun restriction signs, like... ever. But I was taught very strictly about firearms. Safety, knowledge, respect... those were drilled in my head. Its unsettling to think that any yahoo on the block can now carry a gun in his pocket.

Guess it just gives me a reason to stay armed :) I already open carry, and have my CCW (for those discreet situations). I'm all for the shall issue laws. At least they require more initiative and force a bit more responsiblity.

Perhaps I am just old fashioned.

Still can't carry around alcohol here in TX. It's a shame that you can be trusted to drive and not drink once you get a driver's license, but you can't be trusted to CC and not drink. I walk into establishments that serve alcohol every week, yet I only drink alcohol maybe 3 times per year. And if I had a CCW on me, I would not make that instance one of my few drinking dates... Just the same as I won't drink anything if I know I'll be driving.

In case you didn't notice, Brewer went for it. Constitutional Carry will be the law of Arizona in approximately 3 1/2 months.

This is not a factor, simply because it never has been in Arizona. We've in fact have had open carry for decades. It didn't require a permit or any "special training" to indulge in this practice. There have been few if any accidents caused by "any yahoo" carrying open. Why should there be now if all that has changed is the fact they can now pull their shirt over it?

The CCW "training" that one was required to get leaves much to be desired anyway. A half blind man could qualify. All these "classes" were was a vehicle for a lot of these fast buck artists to extract money. If you read a lot of the news stories, they are the ones crying the most, simply because their financial gravy train is about to leave the rails. Good riddance. Most were a joke. Bill T.

We license 15 1/2 YO and up, Felons included to drive which is significantly more dangerous than wearing a pistol on your belt. Constitutional carry is limited to non felons and 21 and over. Whats not to like.

When we have to wash the bar ditches of blood every day I might change my opinion but for now I am pleased as punch.

And AZ is now introducing a bill to make all presidential candidates produce a birth certificate before they can get on the state presidential ballot there.
Texas is the place to be, but AZ is looking very good - Go Arizona!

    Open Carry.

Proof of legal resident status to become required.

Proof of meeting constitutional requirements to run for public office perhaps becoming required.

Hmmmm.........Arizona sounds like a great candidate for joining Texas when the real United (Constitutional) States of America divorce the Socialist States of America!

If we Texans are called to vote on the exodus from socialist America... I'M IN!

I received this e-mail from a friend this morning:
    *******
“IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP AMERICA”

    *New Political Party.*

*Not Democrat, Not Republican, Not Independent.*

*It's called the "PISSED OFF PARTY" (or POP).*

*This party is dedicated to vote every incumbent out of office in the next elections.*
*If you're Democrat, vote Democrat. Just don't vote for the incumbent.*
*If you're Republican, vote Republican. Just don't vote for the incumbent.*

*We need to send a message to all politicians, that we're tired of their B.S.*
*If the country votes out all the incumbents, the new incoming politicians will get the message..*

*It's pretty simple. Nobody needs to change parties and lets face it, there's plenty of blame to spread around.*
*A few good politicians will lose their job but they probably have better retirement and insurance then 95% of the American public.*
*You've had to struggle for the last 5 years. Some of you have lost jobs and may work in some other sector just to feed your family.*
*I guarantee you, none of them will suffer like this country has.*

*If you like what's going on and think this is a bad idea, delete this.*
*But if you're fed up and think this is a good idea, then pass this E-mail on.*
*If you really think this has legs, then a website and a blog could help get the word out.*

*To All 535 voting members of the Legislature; it is now official you are ALL corrupt morons:*

*a.. The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.*
*b.. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.*
*c.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.*
*d.. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.*
*e.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.*
*f.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.*
*g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.*

*You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.*

*AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM? *

*IT'S NOT ABOUT THE NEED FOR GOOD HEALTH CARE, IT'S ABOUT TRUSTING THE GOVERNMENT TO RUN IT!*

*Folks, keep this circulating. It is very well stated. *
