This is a 5th grade math problem.

. This is not a trick question. This is a real math problem so don't say that a bus has no legs.

If you’d like to try your logic skills, post your answer to the question below. I’ll post the correct answer this evening.

There are 7 girls in a bus.
    Each girl has 7 backpacks.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.
Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

    Good luck!

    14. Never said anything about the bags or the cats being on the bus with them. Also didn't say anything about a driver. That being said to answer your first question, no I am not smarter than a fifth grader :p

How many of them are amputees?

And there aren't going to be any legs on that bus as soon as PETA find out how many cats are being stuffed into backpacks and carts everyone off!

That is true, but if I was a 5th grader I would say 67,242 legs total. Since I am not, my question is how the hell are you gonna get 7 big cats in a damn backpack with 7 kittens apiece? That's a lot of cats crammed in small area.

    My guess is:

EDIT: Was completely off and you guys convinced me. I be a moron....

    Stipulated items:

    There is no bus driver.
The cats are on the bus with the girls
Two legs per girl and 4 per cat. If there is some obscure technical term for cat appendages, then *thppppppt*!!!!

    Seven girls = 14 legs
Seven backpacks per girl = 49 backpacks= 0 legs (this is the catch I think!)
    49 backpacks * 7 big cats=343 cats * 4 legs per cat = 1372 legs
7 little cats per big cat = 343*7=2401 little cats * 4 legs per cat = 9604 legs

    14+0+1372+9604= 10990 legs

    or 10992 with bus driver.
or 10994 with bus driver and creepy pedophile guy hiding in back
or 10996 with driver, pedophile, and crazy cat-lady

Same answer I cam up with. But maybe the bus was stopped and there was no driver, clearly we are talking hypothetical as a little girl can't carry 7 back packs with 56 cats in each.

    anyone remember Die Hard 3

As I was going to St Ives

I met a man with seven wives

    Every wife had seven sacks

    Every sack had seven cats

    Every cat had seven kittens

    Kittens, cats, sacks, wives

How many were going to St Ives?

Ok, after going to the range and firing a couple of boxes to clear my head, I gave the problem to my other half to figure out. She came up with 10,990 total legs of which 14 are on the bus, the rest, (10,976) are in the backpacks. There was no mention of a bus driver. Regis, this is my final answer.

I hate word problems, even though I have a four year degree, and to tell the truth, I am better at breaking legs than counting them. :)

As long as I get a share of the profits if there are any, I'm good to go. Small unmarked bills preferably.
