So me and my dad are having a HEATED debate on: If you can drop any upper receiver chambered in 6.8 spc into a regular AR lower, use 6.8 spc mags, and have a fully fuctional rifle.

    Well, can you?

Yes you can drop a complete 6.8 upper on an AR 15 lower.! That is the beauty of the AR platform.

I don't see why not... but I've been wrong before.

Technically not a complete win. You cannot drop ANY 6.8 SPC chambered upper on an AR lower. It must be a milspec AR15 upper.

Indeed. Colt's not "regular" but what the friend don't know, will still make him $50 richer and get him some free range time! ;)

you just need a offset pin to make small milspec pinholes work on the non colt uppers. its one reason i retired my sp1 kind of a pain to use the colt screw in pins

There are always exceptions, but basically, and in most cases, a 6.8 upper is designed to fit on a standard AR lower. Enjoy your $50 and your range time.

If it is a Colt there are adapter sets for them and they are under $10.00. Usually around $4-8.00.
The versatility of the AR Rifle platform is great.

You'll also need a bolt for 6.8 SPC, too. Can use the same bolt carrier IIRC.

On ar15 dont change bolts between uppers. The bolt carrier is fine. Personally i just keep one complete bolt and carrier with each upper even for uppers that are different caliber but use the sane bolt.

Swapping bolts around accelerates wear on the barrel extension and bolt.
