Just wondering if I have to find a gunsmith to have AR parts shipped to...and what parts are serial numbered...and what can be sent directly to me?

only the lower or the stripped lower has to go through an FFL.

    ^^^^ see above post!

the only thing with a serial number that matters, is the lower receiver. with or without an lpk makes NO difference. with or without an upper receiver makes NO difference.

the lower receiver IS THE ONLY part of your AR- that the BATFE considers "a firearm."

in fact, you could order a "fully-loaded AR-15" WITHOUT the lower receiver (meaning you WOULD HAVE EVERYTHING TO MAKE A FULLY ASSEMBLED AR-15, EXCEPT THE LOWER RECEIVER), and would NOT have to go to an FFL holder and fill out a form 4473 to do a NICS check.

exactly UBH. everything but the lower can be mailed directly to your home. you can order a lower or a stripped lower, but has to go through you FFL. i ordered a Remington M700 bare reciever from Brownell's and had it shipped to my LGS where i filled out the 4473 form where it was listed as "other", paid for it and took it home.
