Put together a little want list. I have two ARs both are stock LE style 16" carbines. Ones a CMMG and the other is an M&P 15. I don't know if it matters which to put stuff on, but I am going to mod the M&P is the plan...

So this is what I want.....

Rail

Brass Catcher

Fore Grip

Mag well grip

Overmould pistol grip

Skeleton stock

Rail covers

Just wanted any input before I bought. I am not sure why but ive never done anything to an AR. So before I buy maybe someone had something to say about something, or could offer something better or something.

Check out Midway USA, Brownells, Primary Arms and Natchez Shooter Supply. They offer competitive prices, good customer service and they would not shove your Mom into traffic if it mean picking up a penny off the ground like CTD would. CTD has always been known for high prices, insane shipping charges and poor customer service. But recently they added being anti American gun owner to their resume.

Although I will add that some of your choices in products are good and some not so much. I like the Ace stocks and the Magpul AFG a lot, but I tend to avoid anything named Leapers (aka NCstar, UTG, etc.) or Promag. They are inexpensive for a reason. Best of luck.

Stay away from UTG. Its a cheap for a reason.

Don't get a magwell grip. You will thank me later.

Tell us as much info as you can and we will help you.

If you have a fixed front sight post, check out the magpul moe handguards. Nice upgrade for $35. In all sorts of flavors too like cafe au lait, dill pickle, strawberry shortcake...etc etc.

OK thanks.

Basically less is more. I dont want a quad rail, because I cant fill it up. I dont need all kinds of tatical crap I just want a good looking functional gun.

That is exactly what I have now. Total bare bones. I dont want to go over-kill taticool. I really like the magpul rifle length hand guards but because of where my sight is I wasnt going to mess with it. I also really wanted aluminum fore end which is why I was going to go for the quad rail with the covers. So that is why I chose the longest forend that would accommodate the front sight post. Its not a big deal though I can get whatever hand guard and get that post moved. I would like a full length hand guard. Open to whatever suggestions. Do not care about free floating it, clam shell is fine but I am open to either. I would like a 20" barrel down the road but not before the handguard. I cant afford it right now I am saving up for a scope for a different rifle.

I really want the slant AFG2 forward grip - its the most comfortable thing ive ever used.. I was thinking the mag well grip for when I didnt feel like reaching on the gun but I guess thats a no go.

I really like the fixed skeleton stock. I want that or a variation of it. I dont want any standard ar/m16 style stock.

I really just want a better pistol grip with finger grooves and I know hogue makes good stuff. Thats why I chose them.

These are my two favorite rifles that ive seen, and its all because of the foreend and clean basic look

So I really want the full rifle length fore end, and I want to stay all black. No color matching. It would be great if I could get colored mags but you cant find those anywhere right now. So we will keep it basic and simple.

Pistol grips are personal choices. I recommend hitting a gun show and try some on before if you can. I prefer the MOE + over ergo, Miad and a few other's I've tried. I wanna get my mitts some BCM models but haven't yet.

You can't really move the FSB (front site base) but you can cut it down or replace it with a low profile gas block. Then you can free float a handgaurd over it. Gunsmithing is involved but I don't know how comfortable you are with doing that kind of work. Magpul MOE handguards are very easy drop in replacements, and I personally think they are very comfortable and a worthwhile investment over the standard ovals.

The AFG is another personal thing. If you like it, do it! Also the MOE have a very inexpensive rail that you can mount to it so that you can have your AFG and mount it too.

Same with the fixed skeleton, do your thang.

The only thing you need to do is get a better camera kuz the gun porn your posting is unfappable. Sorry, but I must insist.

That was a random *** picture off the internet. Ill get one of mine in a sec. If we are talking about it, might as well really see it.

Well, like I said about the hand guard, I really like the rifle length, and do not like the mid length but I didnt want to mess with the sight post. Why I thought it was cool that longer rail went around the sight post. I dont mind removing it though but if I do I dont know what to do about a front post. I could get a flat top like the second picture I posted and get a screw on , or it looks like with first picture the guy with the rifle length mag pul moved his stock one forward.

I would really like a metal handguard though not magpul plastic. The less plastic the better. Can you offer anything to maybe fit my taste?

I do know a good gunsmith so anything I dont want to mess with, he will.

IIRC Samson has a FF tube that goes around the FSB. Honestly tho, go with a dissapator look. Extended rifle length handgaurds, its super sesci.....

So I like this alot but I dont see the money there to justify it for me. Id just as soon buy a magpul one and be done with it 1/5th the cost

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-75311

Can anyone recommend one but slightly cheaper? I dont mind being paying for good stuff but I just dont need that kind of rail. Im not building a 1/4" moa gun on this platform.

ArrizX, honestly, if you aren't shooting past 200 yards a free float tube is a waste of time and money. That said, the Troy rail is a sold lightweight free float option that puts rail where you need it and doesn't unnecessarily add extra weight in the form of unnecessary Picatinny rail.

I guess a good question would be what you hope to accomplish by adding all that stuff to your carbine?

I can understand the rail for mounting a white light, but wouldn't an optic, sling, rear BUIS, and white light be more important than all the cool "go fast" stuff?

It's your carbine and your money, but what will adding all that stuff do for you, apart from cosmetic appearances.

From the photos of your M&P, here's what I would buy (assuming you don't already have it):

1. Sling (I like MagPul and Blue Force Gear single/dual setups, but get whatever sling works for you and your intended use).

2. Rear BUIS to replace the heavy carry handle.

3. SureFire white light. I have no problem drilling through the plastic in the handguard and like the GG&G white light mount. It saves time and money playing with rail systems that you ultimately will gain little benefit from. I like the X300, but any purpose built weaponlight from them is good to go. The Scout is my second choice.

4. Red Dot optic from Aimpoint or EoTech (XPS models only). I like the Aimpoint for the battery life and its ability to take a licking, but either one will work.

5. MagPul CTR stock. The MagPul stocks generally just work and the CTR model has a friction lock to minimize the wobble of the stock on the buffer tube.

6. MagPul or BCM Gunfighter grip. I don't know of anybody who does not have pretty small hands who finds it comfortable or ergonomic to make contact with the trigger using the tip of the trigger finger with a normal firing grip on the mil-spec A2 grip. The Gunfighter grip reduces the grip angle just like the MOE K grip, making the firing grip more comfortable for extended periods of time. MagPul is supposed to release a beefier, more MOE/MIAD like reduced angle grip sometime this year. I'd wait for one that product's release is you don't like the Gunfighter grip.

In any event, sling, BUIS, white light. Optic would be gravy. The rest of the stuff is nice to have, but not required.

Please tell us what you want to use the rifle for.

Depends on what your intended use is.

I do agree tho, a standard handguard on a delta ring and fixed sight base really isn't going make a big poi change. FF tubes and rails are mostly for looks, secondly they can be more comfortable to hold, they do increase accuracy a bit, and personally I just think they really look cool.

BTW Troy is good to go, just be sure to try and get the Alpha series, to use a standard barrel nut. Also I prefere the way the VTAC series looks, slots versus polka dots, but that's just me.

Check out

Samson Evolution
Midwest Industries SS Generation 2
Fortis
Noveske NSR
Geissele SMR Mark 2
Rainier Arms Samson Evo rails.

Just a note....most 11" and up models are VERY difficult to find. right now. I've been looking for a 15" for WEEKS!!!!
