Hi, what is the difference between a 22LR lower and say a standard 5.56/.223/multical lower? (If any). Is it possible to build a standard 223 or 5.56 rifle using a 22LR lower with no difficulty? Im aware that the brand is also a factor but I just wanted to know if there were any universal differences regardless of brand. Thanks

i'm not sure about the whole 22lr lower
but i do know you get get a regular ole 5.56/.223 lower and add a conversion kit that will change it to a 22lr...

I've never seen a .22 lower, and it would surprise me a little if anyone actually made one. You can use .22lr with a garden-variety lower with a conversion kit, which is basically just a new bolt carrier group and maybe a mag well insert. They cost under $200 and let you do cheap indoor plinking with your AR.

.223 and 5.56 are very similar. Most (all?) modern ARs are chambered for 5.56 which will accommodate a Remington .223 just fine; there's no need for any modifications of any sort.

Both the previous posters are correct in their statements.

There was a company, probably 6 or 8 years ago that made a totally dedicated .22lr AR variant - but I dont' think it sold many, as stated above, it wasn't something that couldn't be done already with what was out there.

What you can do, if you want too, is buy one AR-15 style lower & build one dedicated .22lr upper and have one dedicated 5.56/.223 dedicated upper. Two quick pins and you can change back and forth between calibers.
