Do any of you guys follow a break in procedure for a new AR? My AR is not a bench gun or long range competition gun. I use it primarily for "run n guns" and close to mid range shooting. I've heard a lot of different things from "Just go shoot it" to "Shoot 20 rounds and clean after every shot"....

i think break in gymnastics is a load of BS just clean it to get the shipping gunk out, lube it up and go shoot.

I think the break in on my last AR was 1,000rds of Wolf down the tube over the course of about 4 hours in 120f+ heat.

    Just go shoot that thing.

I ended up shooting 1 round, lubed and patched the barrel. Did that 5 times and then just shot it.

Please read the article in the April Issue of Guns Magazine about this subject. It is written by John Barsness; he builds custom rifles himself. The name of the article is "Stop the Madness" and in it he describes the senseless obsession he has seen at the range when people "Break-in" their new rifles.

He ends the article by saying "All true rifle loonines know it simply must be done, and the proper break-in will somehow turn a 2" rifle into a 1/2" rifle. Most shooting fads come and go but apparently barrel break-in is here to stay kind of like unwanted relatives at Thanksgiving."

I think that says it all!
