I purchased an AR-10 from DPMS Agee months back, it has a fixed front site, and a flip up peep site on the rear rail.

My questions are 1.) what kind of optics do some of you use, and how accurate are they when they are taken off and put on again?i use the open sites for target shooting, and would like to use the optics for plinking and hunting.

Two ways to go. If you want a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI rifle, the Trijicon ACOG with .308 reticle is the way to go.

For hunting/plinking, I would get one of the 1-4 0r 1.5-5 scopes from Leupold, Nikon, etc.

Of course, it you can afford it, a Swarovski, Nightforce, S&B.. .............

well, i dont know how they attach/detach and hold zero exactly.
but once you add an optic the chances you will take it off i think are pretty rare.

i think a burris, or nikon 2x7, 3x9 would fit your needs pretty well.

if you get to a point you want to try and reach out there upgrade to a 4x12 or 4x16.

could check out burris p.e.p.r mount with quick disconnects. we have the normal one and its awesome.
