I have a Remington 243 with scope, but sure do like my SKS with open sights. It's really accurate and has a bigger bullet than the .243. If you do hunt with an SKS, what kind of ammo do you use? Thanks.

I used one years ago. I used standard 7.62x39 HP fodder. No real expansion, but it worked well.

Ive used them before for deer but most often use for wild boar now adays. They will take deer with good shot placement. For ammo any domestic softpoint will probably be your best bet... Russkie ammo may work but i only use that for target practice...

The 7.62 by 39mm has been compaired to the 30-30. I would use the 125 grain Soft Point. I think it is better than the 243. Game shots shoulf be limited to 100 yards. I have killed several deer with a SKS.

personally i put the 7.62x39 on par with the 5.56 NATO for deer hunting. you can do it but there are far far better rounds. and if you do very careful shot placement is everything.

my opinion the 7.62x39 like the 5.56NATO should be left to coyote size or smaller critters and goblin dispatching.
