I can't imagine that getting through the Geneva Convention. We weren't even allowed to carry hollow points!

So this got me thinking... I have .40 SWAT MagSafe personal defense rounds right now but I might want to change. What do you guys use?

Wow! After reading that article it makes one think that .45 ACP FMJ is the only way to go.

    1) It seems that JHP technology (especially in propellants) has increased a lot in the intervening 20 years. And therefore penetration has probably increased.

    2) If penetration has increased, then expanding projectiles would create such a larger wound cavity.

    3) Plugging of HP ammo doesn't seem quite as big a problem, then, if it is a large enough caliber.

    4) It makes me want to stick to a long arm whenever possible!!

Valid points, but the "stopping power" argument was addressed to great success in that article, so I'm planning on sticking to my FMJs for now.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting you're wrong. It does make me wonder if there would be a 2010 update that would make new technology a deciding factor. And Extreme Shock isn't the tech of which I speak.

It does make me feel like the piles of FMJ I have aren't so bad. They are certainly cheaper than JHP self defense stuff.

Just something to think about. I still think I'll stay with SD JHP's.

    Bonded ammo will penetrate:

In summary, regardless of the medium before the target the penetration and expansion are the same. Whether there is nothing in front of the target but air or heavy clothing and plywood it will do the job.
