My dad was a cartridge and shot shell collector for many years. He sold off most of his shot shells, but I inherited his cartridge collection upon his passing a couple of months ago.
I'm not sure what he has, or what it's worth. It's about a 1000 pieces. He used to say most of it was common that any good collector would have already, with a few good rare pieces.
Any help would be appreciated.
Will post a few pics later.

i believe C3shooter collects cartridges as well and has some really off the wall oddballs as well as some very obsolete cartridges. maybe he will step into this thread.

welcome to the forum and stop over in the introductions section and say hello to the gang.

I am a collector, but not at the same level as many. Most of mine are commercially avaiable calibers with a few rare ones thrown in. I cannot discuss the centerpiece, but a dummy 40mm linked round for the Helo nose gun is pretty close.

That is the question Viking.
It's difficult to display.
If I try to sell it I think I would be left with a bunch of the common stuff after the rest is cherry picked. So it would need to be sold in one lot, but how to price that?
I'm just looking for ideas and or offers…

Not sure where to start. Dad was the expert. Those pix were about half the collection, 10 more drawers. Is it worth $1 a round?
I'm by no means an expert, but you could get a good bit over a dollar for some of that stuff. The common stuff, probably best to keep it at a dollar, bu the discontinued or rarer stuff I'd charge a little more.

Most collections I am aware of are worth more if you piece them out, unless it is a comprehensive and complete set of something. A hodge-podge of items, like ammunition, probably could not fit in this category since there are so many obscure rounds, some of which I'm sure only a handful were ever made.

You could probably piece it out and make more on it, but that would be tedious and take forever and in the end you would be left with a number of cartridges that might not be worth anything, but you don't want to throw away.

I would sell it as a lot if I were you.

Completely agree Viking... I won't piece it out, but not sure how to price the lot.
I know there are some rare, with much common. That's why I thought to average it out at so much per round... Just don't know what that number is.

Sorry, I guess I overstepped looking for help / offers on this collection until I post at least 25 times.
Didn't mean to break any rules, but I'm not very verbose, so it may be a bit before I hit 25...
I guess we'll talk about it again later.

Ever seen Hossfly's posts? You don't have to be verbose.
