Another question....can i get away with this??

    Alrighty then.

    Started working on reloading .35 Rem. 200 grain jacketed soft point bullets.

    IMR 4895 is the powder i have/plan to use.

    Once again all i saw was 4895...didnt notice in my manual it was H4895 instead of IMR 4895 listed.

    According to the IMR data website, they give a load for IMR4895 but ONLY a max load @ 36.5 gr. This is for a Hornady 200 gr RN. ( When working up loads i figure the weight is what is important and not the style of bullet) For the Hogdon powder, the H4895 it gives a starting load of 35 gr and max of 38.5. I my manual (Lyman 48th) its gives a starting load of 34 gr.

    I was planning on loading my .35 Rem. 200 gr JSP rounds with 35 gr of IMR 4895...will this be acceptable in the minds of the wealth of knowledge here??

    I made this mistake before with my 44 mag....but after cross referencing i found that H4227 and IMR4227 w/ 240 gr JHP bullets, the load data is exact.

    Both powders have close burn rate and anything less than a Max load should be safe. I bought 8 lbs for $120 of IMR 4895 from a local shop.

    cross reference it with several sources first, but they are similar in rate of burn, so if starting at the lower level, it should be fine. but check and double check first to make sure.

    My hornady reloading manual lists H4895 for the 35 Remington while using the Hornady 200gr RN.

    28.3gr; 1600fps.
    30.3gr; 1700fps
    32.2gr; 1800fps
    34.2gr; 1900fps
    36.2gr; 2000fps

    red text indicates maximum load * use with caution

    Again some seriously different information from differing manuals.

    SO, should i back down my load of IMR 4895 to 34 gr...or move ahead with 35 gr.

    I am having difficulty finding info for cross referencing. All i have been able to find to this point is my Lyman manual and IMR website. Hornady website is all about selling you something and not offering up information.

    i would definately start at the lower end, and maybe even reduce by 10% per most recommendations with a new load. my way is if the loads differ, using the same powder and bullet weight, i err on the side of caution and use the lower charge weight to start off then work up.

    Hornady is about selling bullets, plus they want you to buy their reloading data book!

    My Ed Matunas book lists 36.5 grains of IMR4895 as maximum w/ the 200 grain bullet. You should be ok. Just watch for pressure signs.

    Thanks guys. I really, truly appreciate all the input.

    All i am able to find is max loads for IMR-4895, no suggested starting point...everything i have found tho confirms MAX is 36.5.

    I have found going middle of the road between suggested starting grains and max grains tends to give me an accurate load.

    Guess i will load 20-25 rounds at 34 grains, shoot 'em up. If the accuracy is there i will stand pat....if not i can always bump to 35 and still be a grain and a half shy of suggested max.

    I have no want or need to push anything near max load!!! My guns are toooo valuable to me ( not to mention the box fed .35 is dads and the tube fed 35 is grandads, both dead) for all that to take a chance on blowing one up....or burning out a barrel.

    Sorry if my constant noob questions are getting tiresome. Guess i should get another manual for cross reference purpose...but DAMN, components and dies and other material eat up a budget in a hurry! I am still wanting a zip trimmer. Still need to get some stuff for annealing (?) Still need factory crimp dies for 30-06 and .223 + case length gauge for the .223. One of those powder throwers with built in digi scale and trickle feature is way high on the "Wish" list....i could go on and on!;)

    OK, call me stupid!!:eek:

    all the posting on here asking questions....more than 6 hours giggle searching for load data etc. Go down to load 34 gr of IMR4895 into 25 .35 Rem cartridges. Reading over the directions that cam with my Lee dies, I look on the back and THERE IT IS, in black and white. 200 gr RN, IMR4895, 32 gr Suggested starting weight, 36.5 MAX grains.

    Sheesh, its amazing what you can learn when you just read the instructions!:eek:

    my Lee manual states: 200gr, H-4895,at 36gr. with1781FPS....

    All right, what is the FIRST rule of working up a load?
    ALWAYS START WITH THE LOWEST STARTING LOAD YOU CAN FIND.
    They don't say to jump into the load you think you want, they say ALWAYS START WITH THE LOWEST STARTING LOAD YOU CAN FIND.
    If there is NO starting load, always start at 10-15% below max load and work up in 2% increments to max, watching for all signs of high pressure, including case extraction force and case head dimensions.
    You can get away with some bad techniques, but don't be surprised if your luck doesn't always hold.
