I think what he meant to say is:
"Teaching a woman to drive is teaching a woman to kill."

Yeah it's so very comforting to know these dropkicks were instrumental in forming our legislation

Favourite idiot-gun-quote of all time has to be from our former PM, the much hated in firearms circles, John Winston Howard:

"we will find any means we can to further restrict them because I hate guns... ordinary citizens should not have weapons. We do not want the American disease imported into Australia".

In a television interview shortly before the tenth anniversary of the Port Arthur massacre, he reaffirmed his stance: "I did not want Australia to go down the American path. There are some things about America I admire and there are some things I don't. And one of the things I don't admire about America is their... slavish love of guns. They're evil".

    what freakin ignorance!

    Anyone do better?

You know he may have a point. Since my dad has taught me to shoot I've killed many. When I think about all the death I've caused on deer, turkey and the like it makes me sad to know that I stole them from their families by ending their life early. Then I remember how good they tasted.

"Learning to use a gun carries with it a responsibility. A gun greatly increases the amount of force that you can apply. A sixteen year old girl now has the same force as a 250 lb football player. Bullies are people that try to apply force to other people when they should not. When responsible people learn to use a gun, they cannot BE bullied- but part of that responsibility is never using the force provided by a gun to BE a bully to other folks. It is just fair, and it's not right. Do you understand?"

Preceding has been a message brought by C3Shooter to his children and grandchildren as an integral part of firearms training for the past 40 years. If you will send me your politicians, I will see if I can explain it to them- but I cannot promise anything- I think my grandkids are brighter than most politicians.

Teaching a child to fish is teaching a child to kill. It's what fishing rods are used for.

Yours are defective! You should sell them to Gary and appropriate better models. ;)

OMG! I never made that connection before! We MUST ban the Fishing Rod/Pole.

I catch and release. So in my case fishing rods are torture devices meant to lure (get it?) fish from there natural habitat pierce them, take pics then put them back, and put them back in pain and exploited.

Notdku - Would that make you an "alien race" to every species of fish?! Are fishing in the Fish Known Area of Fifty One?!

You lure them in, kidnap them, photograph them, then release them back to the tell the tale with absolutely no proof but a hole in the lip?

I am seeing a circular trend here....:eek:

Zhuk- it is working for the Prairie Dogs. It would be simpler if they had been called what they are- Bubonic Plague carrying Prairie Rats. :p

Gentlemen like Mr. Howard and Mr. Cook make me wish time travel were possible so I could transport then to Darwin in February 1942 as the Japanese began bombing the city. While the Japanese didn't do a followup invasion, you can bet that every able-bodied man (and probably woman) who could, did have a weapon. If defending your country is reason enough to own a weapon, so is defending yourself.
As far as learning to kill, I only taught my sons to shoot, safety, maintenance and responsibility. Television, movies and video games taught them about killing. Luckily my teachings trumped theirs.

Here it's 'Flying Rats' aka Indian Mynah birds. I'm sure many people bemoan the lack of widespread gun ownership for this solitary reason :p

    QFT.
Couldn't have put that better, crossfire...although I don't think that's the first thing many think here when you mention "guns".

Firearms must have been pretty prevalent around that time - I've read about old blokes relating how they used to get on the train with their .22s or even .243s (! Unthinkable now) when they were boys after the war, and many men (who obviously would have been ex-servicemen) would sit down next to them and have rational, interested conversations about their firearms. No one went mental...no one was hurt...even weirder, no one thought it at all strange or even dangerous!

Saddens me to think we have fallen so far into fearful, reactive Nanny-Statism all these years later...those old soldiers would be disgusted to think they fought for the "freedom" to be ever more controlled by Govt. So much for "progress" huh

Make no mistake, while some are misguided and confused thinking "Nanny-Staters", the majority don't want the average citizen to be a threat to their power in the march toward world socialism. The criminal element is given a free pass because they can be used by those in control to increase their control; politicians and criminals are symbiotic. In some cases, they are actually identical; only differing in their method of operation.
