I am in need of some insight on shipping ammo. Business ventures have led me to ship ammo across the country and I would like to use the easiest medium. Your input is appreciated.

I'd go to the USPS and get their flat rate boxes, you can ship as much as you can pack into the box, no matter the weight.

Hazmat?
What about the issue of hazmat? I called UPS and they said I must take a hazmat class and get certified to ship the goods. Then UPS must approve the shipment and packaging of the goods. Any incite on Hazmat issues with USPS??

DO NOT USE THE US MAIL TO SHIP LIVE AMMO. You WILL get the meet the staff of the Postal Inspection service- they have the highest conviction rate of any Federal Law Enforcement. It is against the law.
You CAN ship ammo by UPS GROUND. It does not get into HAZMAT class unless shipment exceeds 66 lbs. Label the box ORM-D, Cartridges, Small Arms (run a google image search using that term, get a printable label) List contents as Cartridges, small arms. Do NOT try to ship by AIR. Will need to ship from a UPS Hub, or arrange a pickup. So called "UPS Stores" are not run by UPS, but are franchises, and most will not accept for shipment. Ammo should be in original packing (or as close to as you can get) and not loose.
Tracer, Incendiary, tear gas cartridges, etc- WILL put you in the HAZMAT category.
And you can check the postal regs at USPS.com, and the UPS "tarrifs" (rules) at their website. Do NOT expect all employees to know the regs.

I didn't know that about USPS. I've had ammo shipped to me thru them before and thought it would be the cheapest route. Learn new stuff all the time...

If you're going to do this on a regular basis, and have an EIN or other 'company' ID set up an account with UPS. It's easy, free and will get you the software to print your shipping docs AND save you a ton of money!

conatct the different companies and have them tell you, if they are allowed to transport ammo. And also transport ammo to private people.
I don`t know how it is in the US but I have been looking into ordering ammo over the internet here in germany and it turned out, it is not worth while.
Taking the price of 150 Euro for 1000 rounds of 9mm Para ammo.
One dealer will take € 10,- for shipment, what is dead cheap, but he is not permitted to ship to a private adress, only to a company adress. Now me working in a bank where security has just been upgraded, havin ammo delivered is not such a good idea.
Another dealer will have the ammo for the same price, but shipment will cost 30 Euros if you live in a town like Frankfurt. If you live in the mountains like I do, another 15 Euro will come to the 30 Euro.
Now having the ammo delivered at a specific time, since I am at work during the day and my wife is not permitted to accept a ammo delivery here, will cost another 15 Euro onto the 30 Euro and the 15 Euro.
So in the end shipment will cost 60 Euro and the ammo 150 euro. That makes 210 Euro and I pay 200 Euro for 100 rounds at my gunsmith.
You will have to read the transportation guidelines very well, because you, as the sender, has the responsibility of the shipment and have to do it exactly as the law wants it.
