Does anyone make right side promenant ambi thumnb safetys for 1911's? Ive seen safeties were both sides are equally skinny, as well as the left side being significantly larger than the right. Are their any were the left side is shorter and skinnier, and the right side is the one that is wide and long?

Were ambi safeties designed to cater to left handed shooters? Yet the designs still cater for righties, when the are marketed for lefties.

The ambi safety for the 1911 was originally designed for use on competition 1911s for weak hand shooting. I designed and made a few prototypes that I and a couple of others used in competition for about a year before Armond Swenson patented his design, which was almost identical to mine. Still have my original drawings and one of my early prototypes. Just one of those ideas I let get away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MPS- I stand corrected. I assumed it was for us south paws. What competition requires the shooting of your weak hand?

I often have to shoot weak handed at IDPA. I am also a lefty. I have the long ambi safety like you are talking about. I have often thought about grinding off the long part on the left side of mine. Do you sometimes accidentally activate your safety while shooting? That is why I am thinking about it.

I don't know of any, but I have to wonder.....curious.....why would you want such a safety as opposed to a more standard extended right side?
