    Hey guys,

Got a quick question for ya'll 1911 guys, I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II and I'm a southpaw. So I was wondering if ya'll think that I would be able to install a ambi safety on it or should I take it to the gunsmith?. I don't have any gunsmithing experience. How difficult would you rate it? 1-10

The job is about a five out of ten if you understand how the 1911 works and are mildly mechanically competent and have some basic gunsmith tools like punches and such. Remember you will have to relieve the inside of the grip panel on the off side.

I had the same thing done to my original UltraCarry so my wife could carry it (actually it is now her gun, she's a lefty too). Even though I can do the job myself rather easily I just sent it in to Kimber's custom shop. It was reasonable with a swift turnaround and it did not void my warantee.

Because that thin tab you see extending to the front on the right side needs to run freely under the right side slab.

oh, also it has crimson trace grips on it. Not sure if that changes much, but I'm pretty sure it will have to be a bobbed safety instead of extended.
