AK Bayonet Strap Question

2094 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Benning Boy
On some AK bayonets, there is a strap, usually leather, that is buckled to the pommel and then hooks on the guard. What is this strap and what is it for?

It is refered to as a 'wrist strap' and it is there to help avoid loss of the bayonet when used as a wire-cutter or fighting knife. The smooth plastic doesn't make for the best gripping surface, especially if it is wet. The wrist strap is made of leather or cotton webbing, depending on which country manufactured the bayonet.
Hooks onto the guard to keep it out of the way when fixed.
