Do you guys think an ak-74 is a good "replacement" for an ar?
Apples and oranges.
Depends on what you like and what your application is. I myself prefer the ergonomic qualities of the AR, some guys prefer the AK.
Both will serve you well, get what fits YOU, not somebody else.
I like ak's. Learned it the hard way of buying an ar now dont want it lol. I just think theyre excellent for what they were made for. I mean is the 5.45 equal or better then the 5.56/.223?
I'll take it for you. Even pay shipping.
I am also interested in ak74. I have shot one and it wasn't bad at all. The iron sights worked pretty well at about 75yards. Was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions in a semi auto that shoots a fairly inexpensive round. Preferably tactical look.
Im just worried that the round will be harder to get. It doesnt seem as popular as the 7.62
Just looking at WWW.cheaperthandirt.com they had a bunch, anything from boxes of 50 for about $20 to 750 for $180. But I still think the 5.56 or. 223 is way more readily available here. That's why I'm kind of leaning towards an are. Bit I like how any sort of AK is nowhere near as fussy when it comes to having to clean it.
What i really want is a krinkov but thoae are kinda expensive
Out to about 300yds an AK74 will do as good as an AR in real world type shooting.
What I mean by this is if you are shooting normal sized targets, silhouettes, gongs, pop cans, ect, the AK will do that & do it cheaper than the AR. But if you are trying to put 5 rounds in a bottle cap at 300yds who cares that is not real world shooting. There is no reason for doing that except for being able to pat your self on the back.
I don't think the AK as the replacement for the AR, you should have had the AK first then you wouldn't have make the mistake & bought the AR.
All in all yes the AK is a good gun!
Better buy one quick before the price of ammo goes through the roof. You will need to buy at least double the amount you would normally because AK74s are so fun you just can't stop shooting.
I had an ak but sold it to try out an ar. What i meant was is the round 5.45 as good as the 5.56
That depends on what 5.45 you buy. The Russian import ammo such as Wolf, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, & Golden Tiger is equal in power as most of the 5.45 out today. But doesn't have the quality round to round as the US made ammo does. The one exception is the Hornady steel case 5.45x39 ammo but you will pay extra for this ammo.
But if you get into the surplus stuff you can pick & choose the ammo for what you want it to do.
Read this on the 5.45x39mm ammo, especially the parts "Wounding effects"& "Enhanced penetration". Most of the ammo out on the market now is the 7N6 bullet.
